Memorial Day: Worth Observing Properly?

Oh, please.

Please what, Theo?

I don’t know. Something like ‘please stop posting’ or ‘please pass me a tissue cause I think I’m gonna cry’ or something. I guess I didn’t really think it through.
What I mean is that nobody (here) wants to take away that stuff - that’s good stuff. I don’t think I could have made nice any better than I did regarding remembering dead heroes and so on. It just bothers me that on these days, often people just don’t want to be reminded of that other stuff, when in fact it works together very, very well with the flag-waving and the medal-wearing and the pushing around old soldiers in wheelchairs by their great grandkids, and actually enhances the effect beautifully in speeches.
I’m being flippant, or possibly a worse word than flippant, but you can probably see what I mean if you’re not being deliberately obtuse and annoying.

Story of your life.

arctangent seems to, as well as people not within this forum - whom I was really addressing. Somehow, I guess, you figured it was aimed at you, Pariah-Pants.

At the moment you’re the one holding the O&A bag, Chuckles.

You are dumb.

Seriously.

Not to interrupt the catfight here, but Kung Fu Monkey had a great Memorial Day post:

That’s a wonderful essay, Hawkeye.

It is. I love it when someone presents a clear, well-written argument for a stance I’ve held in my gut for a while but haven’t been able to articulate to my satisfaction.

Well, I love it except for that little twinge of jealousy because I didn’t write it first.

Not to mention the not-so-little pit in my stomach that’s because I know it’s all for naught. America is full of way too many stupid people and led by businesses and politicians that are way too corrupt to ever really get things like this right.
