Microsoft Flight Simulator (2020) - We're really sorry about Microsoft Flight

I’m still on a single monitor as I game from a laptop. But I’m also nervous about VR based on the way I fly. It may take some getting used to being in a virtual cockpit.

I feel the same way. Something more than just landing challenges and the bush trips. Sims have always been kind of, “find your own fun,” but without more tutorials or a career option in some way, the meta games will have to take the place of it instead.

Man, MS needs to update their Seattle photogrammetry. There’s been a lot of change in the past 5 years.

I’m slowly paying back the loan amount I have on the King Air, though to be fair, it’s coming in very quickly. A few runs with a full load of passengers adds up real quick.

But while flying out of Alabama I few over this at fairly low altitude:

The photogrammetry wasn’t there but still, you could tell that entire yard was full of cars. A trucking company in the front and loading them up on rail lines on the side. Tons and tons and tons of cars. It’s a Hyundai plant in Montgomery. And now I kind of what to fly over some other car plants just to see the scale. This thing was massive!

Map point for those interested:
32.286291, -86.320658

Oh wow; that car park is like one of those Guess the no. of Jellybeans competitions. Incredible.

I’ve been taking a few long, time compressed trips in South America to pay off the Caribbean DA62. The Caribbean is pretty boring from the air, tbh. Lots of, basically, sandbars with mangrove swamps on them, very nondescript. And you’re over the sea the rest of the time. I might move that plane to Venezuela/Colombia eventually.

Took some time off from it at the weekend and fired it up today with some reluctance, but it turns out I still love it.

EDIT: Oh, and I started back into the Patagonian Bush Trip. Some of the landing strips are a nightmare. Grrrr.

Patch and USA world update is live. 9.5 gigs.

The Grand Canyon in the update is streets ahead of the 1.0 version.

Ah, seems the patch is 9.5 gigs, the world update is a further 4.2.

In addition to the USA world update, several fixes and improvements have been added to the sim. Thanks to players’ feedback, we are continuing to bring content and adjustments to Microsoft Flight Simulator. Please find below items on which we’ve been working on for this update.

PERFORMANCE AND STABILITY

  • Several crashes were fixed to improve overall stability of the title
  • Optimization on photogrammetry loading
  • Offline air traffic aircraft are now properly removed at a long distance. This caused a performance degradation over time.

PLANES

  • From handling and flight model improvements to auto-pilot fixes, a general review of all planes has been made for this update.

AIRLINERS

  • Fixed: Boeing 747-8 Intercontinental fuel consumption issue
  • Fixed: Airbus A320neo fuel consumption issue
  • Reduced yaw oscillation on the Airbus A320neo by further reducing yaw gain

GENERAL AVIATION AIRCRAFT

  • Pipistrel Virus SW121: Fixed – Cruise speed adjusted (previously too low) in the aircraft selection menu
  • Cessna 152: 5% more elevator authority
  • Cirrus SR22: Fixed – The mixture control is no longer set to Automixture
  • Cessna 208 B Grand Caravan EX: Fixed – invisible spoiler removed
  • EXTRA 330LT : Engine reactivity increased
  • EXTRA 330LT : Fixed full castoring tail wheel animation and allowed up to 90° rotation
  • Robin Cap10 : Allowed 90° range of motion for full castering rear wheel

Garmin glass cockpit equipped aircraft:

  • Added visual notification on PFD when deactivating AP
  • Flight director is now automatically turned on when AP is enabled and cannot be disabled

UI

  • The data consumption value calculation has been fixed
  • Fix input feedback on some devices
  • The livery name should now be correctly displayed in the menus
  • The weather image in the flight plan should now be correct in all cases
  • Some accuracy for the live time have been fixed
  • Fixed an issue that prevented the checklist eye button to be selected
  • The bushtrip menu should no longer freeze
  • Switching from online to offline in the menu should no longer freeze the title
  • Fixed some behaviors that resulted in having the World map search not responding

INPUT

  • Honeycomb Bravo Throttle Quadrant default preset has been added (GA Twin engines configuration)
  • CH Throttle Quadrant default preset has been added
  • CH Flightstick Pro default preset has been added
  • CH Combatstick default preset has been added

ACTIVITY

  • The logbook should now properly log unfinished flights (either via return to main menu or via landing and shutting down the engine and Master)
  • The landing challenge target should now be properly displayed after restarting the activity

WORLD

  • Streetlights of smaller streets and roads should now be displayed more randomly
  • Workers on an airport should no longer randomly freeze and stop being animated

Wow, they added a hand-crafted Friday Harbor airport??? It’s such an odd member of that list. Here’s MASSIVE INTERNATIONAL AIRPORT A and MASSIVE INTERNATIONAL AIRPORT B and Friday Harbor.

About the only people who fly to there are Hollywood celebrities who own homes on the islands.

Aliens not included!

No kidding!

Patched but getting the USA update now as well. Just so new folks are aware, those are under the Marketplace as free add-ons. It is not part of the patch.

While I’m in the area…

Awesome! Those look really good. Like night and day over the mashed potatoes look from before.

So I’m in the marketplace and see that Aerosoft made its Paderborn-Lippstadt airport for free, so why not? And then it starts downloading 6 GB??? No way.

From reddit: The Davis-Monthan Air Force Base got some love in the update.

I fully expect to have an entire SSD dedicated to MSFS in a year’s time.

Long haulers rejoice! The ability to sim rate at higher speeds is back in this patch. I’ve noticed stability for more than one aircraft at 16x even.

@IkeVandergraaf I think you were affected by this as well.

Other noticed behavior, much better stability going into and out of autopilot VS mode.

The Garmin 3000 (TBM) and the Garmin 1000 (King Air) now keeps the second waypoint (destination) if you delete the first waypoint (origin.) It moves the second to the first, allowing MUCH easier follow-on flying. Delete initial origin once you land at the destination (that now becomes origin) and add a new destination. Away you go.

Do they have a before and after?

At least on the TBM, it was already pretty easy to just insert a new destination after the one you arrived at, though I suppose this is a bit tidier. FWIW, I’ve already had an autopilot on a DA62 completely fail to respond to ALT or VS post-patch (fixed with a restart), so they clearly haven’t addressed everything.
