I’m using that as of now for route checking but hadn’t done a full flight plan on it. That looks nice. It was rumored that we’d get an in-game option for it too. I’m kind of referring to the latter, but certainly it isn’t game breaking in any way to tab out to check things.
Looks like I’m mostly done flying for a bit. That left engine shutdown bug that patch 2 introduced has hit me hard. Can’t keep that engine running, even though I had two flights post-patch that were fine. Now - it’s consistently shutting down after about 2 minutes.
Argh.

That’s a good question. I’m not a real pilot, but I’ve flown on PilotEdge, which has ATC on every towered field in its western-US area, and that gave me a sense of what people do when they need to change altitude and don’t have a lot of room to do so. The answer, at least there, was to circle. IFR charts give explicit directions where to do this, but for VFR, it’s more up to you where to do your circling. If your airport is surrounded by mountains, maybe do a pattern circle (counter-clockwise by default) around the airfield while you lose altitude. I remember circling such an airport on PilotEdge while I took 5-10 minutes to reduce my altitude, and the ATC controllers seemed to have no problem with it.
That’s preferable to going into a steep dive, which can be risky. In a Cessna 152 or 172, I try not to lose altitude at more than 500 ft/minute, though I guess 1000 ft/minute is considered acceptable.
Mechanically, I’m sure you already know the answer – reduce power rather than pitch the nose down. Pitching the nose down will increase your speed, which you don’t want.

Finally decided to move my FSE Cessna from where I bought it in central Washington, to nearer where our rented FBO terminal is on the Olympic peninsula. This was 150nm flight, with no autopilot.
Flying over the Cascades. Rainer was to the south (left) of me, but covered in clouds the entire time.
Finally descended below the perpetual cloud cover on the western slope.
Delivered some Red Ball EXPRESS passengers to the Pacemaker Landing Zone :)
Now it’s just a short hop to the Leisureland Airpark in Bremerton, where I’ve collected some group assignments.

Looks like fun. Any struggle with the Cessna at altitude crossing Rainer?

No, I consulted a VFR chart for my route and flew at 9000’. Cessna had no problem getting up there, even with 2/3 tank of fuel and 3 pax.
Then I decided to just fly the 35 miles to Bremerton. Here’s me coming in for a landing at this beautiful grass airstrip
You may be thinking: “Too high!” Yup. Landed too far down the runway, which ended abruptly in a steep embankment with some handy trees down there to wrap my plane around. (I don’t have damage turned off.) So that’ll be a tricky landing (lake on one side, cliff on the other). Picturesque though.

I read somewhere that they specifically excluded any aircraft that can go over Mach 1 because they wanted to work on their supersonic aerodynamic model. Can’t remember if that was from an actual developer interview or just random scuttlebutt, but it certainly seemed like a valid excuse to me.
So those all could potentially get added in another update. Similar to how they’re currently working on the helicopter update.

I’d settle for Mach 0.97 tbh ;-) But yeah, this baby has a bright future! And for those content to conquer the skies in a Cessna in 2D, it’s already here!

Oooh, a Mooney! Given that that’s one of the 4 planes I’ve flown IRL (the earlier 231 model), I’m gonna have to snag that!
Regarding charts, if you have a tablet, you can open https://skyvector.com/ on that.
I had the same issue. Tried adjusting the sensitivity. Still too sensitive to be useful. I finally just cleared the definition, set two buttons on the base of the stick for trim, and reprogrammed the knob as a spoiler axis.
On a GTX 1080 at 3440x1440 I have most on Ultra, but a few turned down to medium after reading a guide on which settings most affect frame rate. Getting 24-34 fps, though last night flying into OrbX KBUR it dropped to a steady 10-11 fps. Not sure what happened there. Have to revisit and see if something got bogged down, or if that scenery’s wonky.

Which, compared to the Bonaza seems strange, right? The hell. Maybe the horsepower settings on it are too low?
That grass strip and screenshot look GORGEOUS. Like flying into heaven. If that’s home strip I’d be tempted to hire out and get some asphalt and maybe another hangar or two out there (i.e. more fun playing with the SDK.)
Denny which guide did you use?

Many thanks, man. I need a little tweaking. I also need to cache a couple of my well used airports, the scenery pop-in for one in particular is driving me bananas.

I’m flying around Hawaii in the TBM, getting used to it. One question: does the autopilot work? When I push the Engage AP button, I don’t see any annunciator light up. Shouln’t I see a “AP” at the top of the PFD? MFD?
Okay, I guess I’ll have to finally upgrade to Windows 10. This thread is really selling me on this game.

I’ve been running everything on High on a GTX2080 at 1440p. Everything has been doing great consistently above 30fps (which seems reasonable to my eyes) except, when I tried to to the Patagonian Bush Flight, it hitched up about every minute or so.
I was a bit surprised, as even flying over London (the largest city I’ve tried) it seemed fine. Maybe the trees are heavier weight than buildings?
Here’s a very detailed comparison video of what the different settings actually do. I’ve only watched about a quarter of it. But it doesn’t look like there’s much difference between High and Ultra (and honestly, Medium looks pretty decent too).

Scenery pop-in is apparently controlled by Terrain Level of Detail, watch that video I just posted for vyshka starting at 10:23 in to see how Terrain Level of Detail affects the radius at which objects appear on the ground.
Try cranking that up and see if that helps.

Does anyone know how to use the auto-pilot on the TBM? I can’t get it to do anything.
Also, I just wasted two hours trying to do a checkride for OnAir. I did all the stupid maneuvers (in the dark, I might add), without autopilot, in the TBM. On final approach, OnAir loses its connection with the simulator. It’s supposed to resume where we left off, but it didn’t – it wanted to start over. I think I may be done with it.
On the bright side, earlier I had a nice flight over Honolulu in the TBM. But I’m not sure I love this aircraft as much as everyone else does. I have trouble seeing forward.

I haven’t watched it, but this looks like it covers the TBM
For streaming data, is it streaming the low fidelity stuff? I’d love to be able to tell it a flight plan and have it pull down the higher fidelity data for that route.

I’ve used the TBM autopilot a bunch and never had a problem with it. I use ‘Z’ to engage and disengage the autopilot. Maybe the button isn’t working?
It will throw a warning at you about the yaw damper, though supposedly they fixed that in the latest patch. And FLC mode doesn’t work reliably for descents. (Just use VS.)

Sure does – and I really like that Youtuber. He did a video on ILS flying that taught me a lot in a short period of time. He speaks quickly, so you have to stay awake, but I like that. Anyway, I’m watching now.
Hmm, hadn’t tried Z. I thought I bound the key to a button on my yoke, but I never saw the “AP” annunciator light up, and nothing seemed to happen. I did start cold and dark, and it’s conceivable I missed something during startup. Anyway, on to watch the video vyshka linked.
