You have no idea - you outa play with him in L4D. ;)

No exactly what I was expecting after a big anouncement. He is not going to rename the folder where he store the game source code, nor make any decent change on the code, or realistically change what feature he accept and implement, or what type of bugs will be fixed. Only the price change really matters.

Is not a bad announcement, specially that we may have a modding api soon, but is somewhat like Microsoft announcing that has a cure for spam, and that the cure is paying $1 to Microsoft for every email you send… 15 is premium for a indie game (probably Cliffski will disagree).

I think €15 ($20) is perfectly reasonable for Minecraft. They need to start planning the companies future and that means getting revenue from Minecraft expansions while working on the other project. I suspect there will be a huge jump in purchases over the next nine days. It will be interesting to see what the purchase rate will drop to afterwards. It’s been a pretty steady climb so far.

Minecraft is Game of the Year over at RPS.

…and at PC Gamer.

Also, I have a cape?

I haven’t been on in a while, but I thought they were only for the employees.

Employees get a special cape, and the rest of us get them on special occasions. That one’s for New Year’s, and there was a different cape design for Christmas.

i’m not sure what the design on the cape is supposed to be, some sort of purple cthulu portrait?

ok i see the 11 now at the bottom but the rest of it is umm hrmm.

fireworks, probably

More content coming next week:

But! We (especially Jens) have added a bunch of new content to Minecraft that we want to get out asap, so there will be a content patch update next week with a whole pile of fun new toys, including a water mob and quite possibly paint if we can figure out how exactly it should work.

I’m betting the water mob will be shark or piranha. (Or dolphin/porpoise, if it’s friendly.)

I fired up the game again last night and finally ventured into the Nether. Possibly because my portal was activated at a high elevation, the corresponding Nether portal appeared in a cave system high above the ghasts. What’s the best way to get down there, short of destroying and recreating my portal? Each time I open a hole and peek through, at various locations, ghasts spot me and immediately open fire. Perhaps I need to tunnel to a spot much further away, or find a wall and tunnel down it.

I usually try to build a bunker asap when I first go to the nether. It can be tricky, but it will allow you to work on any kind of solution afterwards.

That’s the plan, as soon as I can figure out how to descend to the surface!

Edit: Also noticed that while my first real-world gate that was placed at a high altitude resulted in a high altitude Nether gate, the second Nether gate, placed at the same Nether height, spawned a real-world gate inside a deep underwater cave instead, perhaps because that was the closest suitable location on the z axis. The three after that all spawned on land (well, one on ice, but that’s sort of consistent).

ASCEND

In the topsy-turvy world of Minecraft, I guess it’s all a matter of perspective.

One million copies sold, as of about ten minutes ago. I’ll be over in the corner grumbling “wish I’d thought of that” to myself…

So far 3170020 people have registered and 1000212 people bought the game

My interest began to wander in Minecraft, so I took a break to stave off burnout.

I figure by the time I fire it up again there should be updated stuff and then I can have my fun all over again.

Updated stuff! Version 1.2 is out now, with:

Time to start a new world!

Grrr I wish theBiomeTerrain modworked, I was really looking forward to trying minecraft again with some more interesting terrain. I’ll just have to wait I guess.

Remeber that for every patchnote N lines long in a alpha, theres a list of bugs M lines long.

DON’T GET TOO EXCITED.
EXCITATION IS NOT AUTHORIZED, YET.
