these are engine changes, is understandable.
It’s a tough job though, trying to retrofit a modding API into an established design that people are now used to delving into and modifying at the very deepest levels.
The feature of mods not breaking after any update is soo big, that anything else is small. IMHO.

I hope they do invest money into this aspect of the game. I suspect, with the critical mass of talent and inspiration they appear to have in the mod community, having a mod api for the game would do for it what modding did for Quake 2, imho.

The mod makers will go so far as to inject their own code to get the game to do what they want. Notch doesn’t approve, but he’s also not going to do anything about it.

That looks more like Longcat, or his dark brother, to me.

Either way, it’s terrifying. Jesus.
I got mobbed by 8 spiders in my first game for months, I’m still recovering.

Skylands is not that good, imho, but what it does is to demo a new way to play the game, somewhat like a “3D MUD”. So it change how you look at the future, and is amazing. Anyway the people making nice maps are not getting any attention by the community, so there are few maps :-/

I’m trying BiomesTerrain mod and that Eagles Paradise is pretty awesome.

MOrberis, do you get black screen lockups with the Eagles Paradise settings? I always seem to crash after a couple of minutes.
My guess is that it’s generating water that is flowing through a hole in bedrock, which causes a memory leak or crash of some sort, but that’s only a guess.

No I don’t, and I’ve played for several hours straight. I do get large amounts of lag at the start and it does take longer to load than a normal map though, my save file is at least 9mb at this point with very little exploration.
Here, this is my save. Try it and see if you get those problems.

Are you on a nVidia card or ATI?
I’ll try your save but I have a feeling at this point that it’s a combination of java hitting about 1gb of memory usage, and nVidia’s openGL. That seems to be the common thread with game problems.
And the epic open nature of the mod’s levels probably exacerbate that memory problem.
edit: Yeap, still happens.
ATI, 5850, i7 860 @ 3.4 with 4 gb of ram.
Anyone else unable to connect to the minecraft server? I’ve had intermittent successes today, with most failing.
Maybe they hit a snag when they moved servers earlier today (Amazon cloud).

On the bright side, hopefully the days of minecraft.net being down are over.
They have been having a lot of problems lately, notch’s twitter seems to indicate that a lot of stuff is getting shuffled around – hopefully they will get things sorted by this weekend. It seems pretty clear they are victims of their own success at this point, since their authentication infrastructure doesn’t seem to be able to keep up with demand.
Hopefully when they finally release Minecraft they can do something like use Steamworks to leverage their already existing infrastructure (that isn’t being run by just a handful of people in Sweden).
I just started playing this last night. Holy cats this is awesome. I will never be heard from again.

So I’m just getting back into Minecraft after a couple months away. The modding scene for this now is really taking off. There are a ton of mods I’d like to use, but I’m unsure if they can work together, and if so, how.
First, can you get things like that Biome world generator mod on the last page to work at the same time as, say, MiniMap mod, Better Light mod, single player commands mod, etc? Is it just a matter of using that mod manager tool I’ve seen, or do you have to hand modify the minecraft.jar file?
Also, I’m using a HD texture pack, and in order to do that, you have to run a tool that will only load the texture pack on an un-modified minecraft.jar. Is it not possible to do mods and HD texture packs together?
I really like the stuff in Craftbook - is there anything like that for SP? Does anyone run a MP server just for themselves so they can use MP server mods?

I would probably use the associated mod manager. There’s just too much room for incompatibility problems to crop up.
Load your texture pack first, and then apply other mods.
