I don’t want massive save games on my C volume so I prefer it in Documents, which can be redirected to another volume easily enough.

I doubt it - as far as I’m aware, a large portion of the game’s initial success came from the fact that people could play it within their browsers instead of having to download and install something.

In that case developers should ask users where they want to save their data instead of where they want the program files to go to (asking about both is better actually).
In any case - I got the SP commands mod working which makes me very happy. I don’t care much for the survival / exploring stuff in Minecraft. As far a I’m concerned its a virtual Lego set for me and my kids, and I don’t like mining for the cubes.

I’m the opposite, I want even more survival, and I hope he keeps cranking out the extra enemy types.
I would mine for hours if I knew I had the chance to find a dragon at some point and had to fight for his horde.

I might be more interested in the survival game if it was deeper. I’d love it if you could establish settlements and have them being populated by NPCs. Manage trade and economy etc, but currently its too empty for me. Anyway I rather not get into the ‘hole in ground’ debate.

I think the key here is that he not only has the two modes that you and I are interested in, but he’s announced more upcoming game modes. I know he adds regularly but I kind of wish he was more than a one man programming show.

Yes, but for some reason the free commands are available in MP and not on SP (or was that a mod as well?).
I actually believe that we will see all sorts of game mode made by modders so I don’t worry about that.

There are mods in progress that do just that, I posted a link a page or two ago. At the moment you can only build lumber jacks and miners, but it is still very cool watching them running around doing there own thing.

Yep, I fully expect to have many of those around.

Just in time for the Super Bowl:

I think hoping for the opportunity to have a dragon recruit you into his army is asking a bit much of Notch.

Hey, we can’t all be part of the Dragon brigade. Don’t be a hater.

If the user launch a app in program files, that app run with the user access rights, if you let the app write files in program files, so will be able to the user, and a virus or other malware. The malware will be able to modify the app, and make itself permanent in the system.
The solution to that is to limit where apps and users can write to a “personal data” folder. Microsoft seems undecided where to put that, and different versions of windows disagree on what folder is the best. Users prefer a different balance of convenience and safety, so most users make “program files” writeable, but programs can’t be made after that.

Yeah, we covered that a few posts ago. In any case, putting user generated content (save files in this case) in the hidden by default app data directory is dumb.

Maybe if Microsoft hadn’t been making the standard folder structures more and more complex with every major operating system release, we wouldn’t be having this problem so much.
I haven’t used “My Documents” for my documents in years, due to all the crap other programs feel entitled to dump there.

If I were you, I wouldn’t watch this one too far to avoid as many spoilers as possible. But watch the first few minutes and you’ll get an idea of what it is about: Minecraft turned into a giant puzzle with malicious wooden boards teasing you during “the experiment”.

As mentioned in the multiplayer thread (but specific to single player) if you have not tried the Mo’ Creatures mod at advanced difficulty, you are missing out. Such fun.

That’s a pretty incredible achievement for a mod. Runner-up is probably that female companion mod that fights with you.
