Whoa, you mean he said something that made sense? Thanks for translating!

Being serious though, if they’re bringing someone else in to code the mobile version I’d very much doubt it would (or even could) be a straight port, so I still don’t believe reference to the current iteration would be a valid comparison in any case.

Whatever Notch did to improve performance after the Halloween update fucked it up… it worked. DocLazy’s survival world runs smoothly again!

Adding to that, I don’t imply that Notch code is bad. Just that (the actual version) his not the optimized version (but notch can make the optimized version in a future date). Probably is better to work with a unoptimized version now, and optimize the code later. IMHO.

early optimization is a bitch.

Also, sorry about my language :(. You guys ROCKS!.

The new seed entry for map generation is a blast.

Why, exactly? I mean, I know you can give someone a seed, but the spawn points are different.

Still uses the same parameters to generate the map.

These are some fan favorites, apparently:

I haven’t tried them all.

You have proof of this?

Wow, I’ll have to check some of them out.

That the spawn isn’t the same? It wasn’t when I tried.

The spawn points may or may not be the same. In any case, over on the official forums people seem to have no problem locating other people’s screenshots on their own incarnation of a given seed.

I don’t think the spawn points different THAT much – I think I heard that all the possible spawn points in somewhere in the range of the same 128 block radius of each other or something.

Never change.

Never learn proper English, is what you mean.

That would be no fun. To his credit I’m sure I could barely utter anything intelligent in another language (presuming english is not his native tongue).

Plus new slogan: Quarter to Three - We Rocks!

Pretty sure Teiman is Spanish.

A programmer never optimizes late, nor does he early, he optimizes precisely when he means to.

  • Two different seeds will generate different worlds (Thats pretty much the point!)
  • Trees and other ‘decoration’ is random? (I have not confirmed that myself)
  • Spawn point is calculated using random movement searching for a sand tile, so the player start in a sand tile. This could result on different spawn points (I have no confirmed that myself, but yea… seems the player always spawn over a sand tile… I don’t think is coincidence )
  • If notch change the mapgen code, the old seeds will generate different worlds (so if you love a seed, it would make sense to generate a lot of terrain for it, before a mayor mapgen upgrade… and backup that generated world).

tl:dr

  • You can share the seed and other people will get the same world, maybe different details, and maybe different spawnpoint.

Don’t know what the issue is, I understood this post just fine.

Thanks for the elucidation, Teiman.

Out of the seemingly infinite list of texture packs, which should I use?

It’s purely a matter of personal taste, but among the more popular ones are Painterly, Tronic, GeruDoku, Jolicraft, JohnSmith, and Quandary. A lot of texture packs aren’t kept up to date with newly-added blocks, so watch out for that (the ones I listed should all be current, though).

Of those, I don’t like the Tron look and Painterly looks like the “cleanest” high-res one. Thanks.
