Kids doing tours of their Minecraft creations is just awesome! I gave it a Like. :)
There isn’t really a good way to force it to make the portal put you back exactly where you went in, unfortunately. When you create the portal to the Nether, it often has to move it around to put it in an available space, and then its new position no longer maps back to where you entered in the normal world, and is also off by the multiplier factor.
Get your pick and start digging up…
(If you really do want to fix it, you’d have to calculate the offset to where the portal should have appeared in the Nether with a direct mapping, clear out that area, and create another portal there.)
Dig to the surface, build some kind of marker, take note of your coordinates, put all your stuff in a chest and then kill yourself. You’ll be at your spawn and can travel overland to your chest coords.

You’re actually not going to be too far from your original portal, so if you can just get out of the cave you’ll be OK. Dig up if you have to.

Man, I finally found where I was … dug to the surface, traipsed around in ever increasing circles…found my original area…I can’t believe how far off this portal is.
So I destroyed the original portal, relocated it about 40 steps away, step through and I’m back to the same friggen portal (which means it doesn’t return me yet again).
And this is supposed to be fast travel??

I’m amazed they haven’t fixed that bug.
But hey… tameable wolves!
Release date: 11/11/11. If he really wants to have an official ‘Adventure Mode’, he’d better get crackin’…

I’d be happy if he would just get directional sound working correctly. It is very frustrating to hear water / zombies / whatever, and have to dig 8 different directions to find it. (I’m exaggerating a bit here for effect, but it does frustrate me that sound is omni-directional at times)

Yeah the sound feels very 2 dimensional. You really get no good feedback on whether something is above or below you.

That’s what F3 is for!
Just kidding - I hope he fixes that too.
I believe Adventure Mode was always planned as an expansion, not for the normal release.

So, has minecraft peaked? What more is going to be added besides “stats”?
Coming up soon are weather effects (rain and snow), pistons, and minecart boosters/brakes. And in the longer term, he’s still planning on having an ‘adventure mode’ where you’re constrained in certain ways and play through maps without being able to just break your way through everything.

Can’t he just change the logic on the current powered minecarts so that they’re not completely fucking useless?
-
They can’t go uphill unless you stagger the hill with one block of horizontal travel.
-
They don’t actually work the powered minecarts move in the direction on which you click them… which means it’s impossible to have it push the cart you are in because it will just move away.
Piston mod? What’s that? What kind of pistons are we talking about here?
As far as we know, the pistons will be based on this mod. Basically it extends and pushes a neighbouring block or dropped item away, or launches it into the air if it’s pointing up.

Awesome. I’d still like trap doors and half-doors, but this sorta allows the same type of functionality (well… sort of).
