Crazy me, I bought Minecraft because it’s fun.

Well, I guess that makes me crazy too. Because, see, I find the idea of Friday Updates fun.

Doc, why do you have a drill and a diamond drill? AND a mining laser?

In sad (for me) news, I was having a blast messing around with IndustrialCraft when I got careless and died in some lava, losing all my nice electric tools and two battery packs and a couple rechargeable batteries and a ton of ore. It’s going to be a real pain coming up with all the rubber to replace that stuff.

At this point is not possible.

Game breaking bugs relased a friday, means either the bug is causing damage 3 days, or the IT people has to fix it the weekend. Both options are ugly.

Releasing updated a wesneday is way better, theres 1 day to repair the damage /undo the patch, a whole weekend to think about things, relax, then do something better the tuestday or the next wesneday.

Wesneday updates > Friday updates.

I think weekly updates are a good thing, but with the current popularity of modding are a problem, since a lot of people become dependant of mods that will break. Not all mods are candy, some are needed, like Optimine / Optifog. Some peopel may want / need to update. Is a messy situation where a slighty slower update speed seems beneficial.

I am kind of bored of minecraft. I do not run any mods. Are there any mods anyone can recommend that make the game a lot more interesting to play?

Play something else for a while ™. It’s a new mod that will actually help you appreciate the game more. :)

I played that mod for quite a while, it’s awesome! Now I’m ready for more Minecraft.

It an old habit. The normal drill uses about half as much energy as the diamond drill. But now we have backpacks it doesn’t really matter. The mining laser is my ranged weapon. Except for making tunnels I don’t really use it for mining, it can be a bit dangerous(but fun) blasting holes everywhere.

I had an accident with lava as well. I was mining obsidian and fell in but couldn’t jump out. Goodbye several stacks of goodies, batteries and tools. However I now have a chest full of ore thanks to 3 auto miners running 24/7.

I’d recommend getting the Nature overhaul mod. It makes trees and plants grow and die automatically. It also includes a lumberjack feature, where by the entire tree falls down when you cut the bottom block. Makes getting wood less of a hassle, especially those large trees.

What if your house is made of logs and you cut out the bottom log?

Nothing will happen. However, if your log house is connected to a tree and you chop the tree down, your house logs might drop as well.

The Great Minecraft Mod Thread

I climbed into a time machine, went back a few weeks, and created this thread just for you.

You don’t update software on a friday or a thursday (or just before the xmas holidays!). It’s common sense in software development & IT services, and should be applied more often to games development too.

Of course just because it’s common sense doesn’t mean that the business people don’t try and get you to do it anyway but usually we win out on the software side…

Thanks for the tip about the regular mining drill using less energy. I didn’t upgrade my new one to diamond since I don’t ever use obsidian for much.

The Nature Overhaul mod seems pretty cool, but unfortunately the lumberjack feature doesn’t seem to work for me.

Thanks again to Guildboss for the Youtube obsession with Minecraft. I just recently reinstalled after a lengthy break and your video explained the seed concept very clearly (neat feature).

Now this drill business…is that some mod or yet another new feature I haven’t caught up with? I’ve been skimming this thread even when not playing, but I must have missed that.

It’s a mod called IndustrialCraft. It adds a lot of stuff to the game: Copper, Tin, Bronze, rubber, cables, circuits, solar panels, windmills, water mills, even uranium and nuclear power plants. It also adds a lot of nice power tools like a chainsaw, a mining drill, a mining laser… all powered by electricity.

Is there a wiki on this? That is the mod that has my most interest. I was wondering how you would connect a wind farm to power like 5 machines that normally need batteries and what-not.

That sounds rather crazy. Looks like once I have my fill of messing with and exploring different seeds I know what to check out next.

Bought this today. Hollowing out a home in a cliff.

Those creepers are a bitch.

Industrial Craft Wiki Because the mod gets updated so often it’s not 100% accurate.

To wire the wind farm up. Connect up four to wind turbines to an mfe(the sides are input, top and bottom outputs), make sure the length of the cable for each is less than 10 blocks, as you start losing energy through longer cables. Then wire the one of the outputs from the mfe to your machines (machines can be powered from any direction). Laying a cable and putting the machines on top will work fine. You can only power a few machines like this, as each cable split also splits the power in halve. So the machine at the end of the cable may only get a few EU.

Clown sex crashed my Minecraft. True story.

After a reload I got to enjoy the very expansive bit of forest it generated though…
