Does your server have any special mods, like Industrial Minecraft? If not, why did you start it up? What happened to the other minecraft server (Yes it has been a while since I logged on.)?

The Official Qt3 Survival Multiplayer server? It’s still there.
My guess is, once a world gets built up to a certain level of civilzation, it feels like all the group-building stuff is kinda done, so people move onto fresh worlds.

Yeah. There is still awesome stuff on the QT3 server, but I don’t really like the seed. The cliffs of “Glacier” are so awesome.
No mods.
I started it because I like the game?

I logged into the “official” QT3 server and after wandering around for an hour, everything was so built up that I’d have to wander far and wide to get to a new area to start my own. As Pogo said, Jason’s is fresh (for the time being anyway) and it’s a wicked seed.
So I built myself a Mobivator over the last few days. Still trying to get the death chamber and separators working properly but this thing is awesome when it starts spitting out mobs. It has 8 14x14 pads and it is most efficient in daylight. I have to spend some hours this weekend lighting up all the caverns in the area and covering the ground with torches.
Not exactly brag worth compared to the things people have built, but I’m usually not much for building epic structures. I haven’t tried to build anything complicated in minecraft like I used to in DF. I usually stick to the exploration side of things. I’ve never had enough gunpowder to build more than a few blocks of TNT and watching Etho clear huge areas in a few minutes really showed me the way. I’m going to finally build my uber base.

Efficiency really goes up when you light up the nearby tunnels. I’ve found F3 to be invaluable in locating these tunnels.
Mobivator is really the best way to collect enough gunpowder to make dynamite. I collected over 30 gunpowder in about 5 minutes. And I agree with you - daylight is when this thing really cranks out the gunpowder/bones/feathers/arrows/string.
Eight pads - holey moley that’s a lot of pickaxes to grind through. Mine is only two pads and I’m very happy with it.

Press F3 while you are walking around. It’s a status screen which shows your x,y,z coordinates and also conveniently labels everything around you - which also works for mobs. So when you’re down in a tunnel, press F3, you’ll see labels for the mobs & you can tunnel in their direction.

I would have preferred that you did not tell me that, actually.

How did you of all people not already know this? :) I’m pretty sure you were one of the guys who looked at the 404 challenge thread on the minecraft forums and it explicitly pointed out how to get to certain co-ordinates using F3.

I just never used it.
I particularly didn’t know that it showed enemy nameplates. I’ll probably forget soon enough.
Sooooo many pickaxes. I started to make it just two pads and then thought why not go all the way. I’m tempted to make it 12 soon. the trickiest part is tweaking all the water streams in the canals.
I have been playing for months and this is the first time I’ve ever used this. I had also never changed the difficulty from Normal. I can’t imagine building this without being able to turn off the mobs.
I built a little observation room down below and it’s amazing to see just how many mobs come and how quickly they spawn. I’m having a hell of a time getting the kill/collector set up perfect though.

I had to re-watch part IV again to get how he did that. I would watch, pause, go into minecraft, place 4 blocks, go back to youtube, rinse and repeat. Viola at the end though, it works like a champ.
Has anyone else played with this map?

I have had fun in single player but I think it would be good for multi. The resources are rare on the surface and venturing underground is different from vanilla Minecraft. There are no caves. There are ruined tunnels infested with mobs. The lack of cave systems puts a lot of mobs on the surface at night. The tunnels would be fun exploring in groups.
I know several here really liked the challenge of DocLazy’s world. This is a lot like that challenge-wise, I feel.
So it turns out that the phrase drakkar noir is an awesome seed
that IS danger I smell!

Boo I think I fucked myself by updating Minecraft & then entering my Industrialcraft world. There were no Industrialcraft blocks lying around (of course). I just hope I didn’t fuck myself when I get a new version of Industrialcraft going…
