Pretty sure you fucked yourself. Those blocks are gone.

Fuck. I probably lost all the ore lying around my existing chunks too, didn’t I? What a fucking bonehead I am. :\

I just found something out last night - if you hold shift while climbing a ladder, it will hold you in place so you can pick a block. I always hated ladders because I couldn’t stay in one place, now that is fixed!

On a sidenote, Jason on your server, did you disable diamonds or make them super rare because I spelunked last night for a good 4 hours and didn’t find a single diamond in the wild. I didn’t do any strip mining - but I hit a good 10-15 lava fields and not a single diamond in all that time. That is pretty rare for me so thought I’d ask.

I’ve found diamond on Jason’s server, so it’s there. I have a small branch mine going.

I am strip mining in Jason’s map, and I found maybe 10-15 diamonds in all.

I just found a pocket of 8 diamonds, connected to redstone and iron pockets. Woot.

It’s taking forever to mine out, since the server keeps lagging and I have to mine each block out 3 or 4 times. I NEEDS MY ORE!

Shouldn’t this be in the multiplayer thread?

Anyways, I’ve started lighting up a pretty complex cave system on the other side of the lake from the spawn.

This is getting into some rarefied heights in terms of sales. Won’t be the next Sims but might be the next Rollercoaster Tycoon.

I’ll bet you sissies respawn when you die. You should start a new world when you die. IRONMAN.

Also, this game is incredible.

Just you wait.

It’s already coming to iPhone and iPad this year.
Next year I am sure it will be PSN and XBLA.
In 2013 TI-83 calculators and calculator-watches.

I think I’m obligated to mention that you missed Android phones in that list.

Notch’s modding plans (there’s a later note that he’s dropped the ‘reasonable cost’ to free).

I’m kind of disappointed as it seems to mean that mods will still have to be reapplied with each update, could be broken by the update (though far less often without the obfuscation), may still conflict with each other, etc. Modders will just be able to prepare earlier with access to changes before they’re released.

I can appreciate that it’s difficult to come up with a modding API that makes everyone happy, though. Put in an exit that allows the behaviour to be modified when a block is placed and one guy will go “Noooo, I need to trap that earlier, before the type of block being placed is fixed”, and another guy will go “Noooo, I need to trap that later, after the block has been placed and light has been recalculated but before gravity kicks in”…

How this can possible work? will the modder minecraft.jar file be signed? do this will stop multiple mods running at once?..

I can’t wait to put my hands on the original source code. It don’t seems Notch put much comments, but It will be way easier to understand the flow of the game. Things like inicialization code.

I can’t imagine how many indie devs would love to be able to do what he’s doing. Releasing source code for an awesome game seems like a death sentence if they haven’t already sold over 2 million copies.

I’ve died 4 times since posting this. Creepers, every time.

It probably is a death sentence for Minecraft™ as a trademark though. Mojang’s never been interested in that, but I can imagine a lot of suits are weeping at the lost sequels, spinoffs, DLCs, and lawsuit revenue.

You should post your worlds after you die so that we can make sure you don’t alter them. :)

Dead sentence …why?

Id Software has made open source the Doom and Quake engine. And these games where viable after it.
The Duke Nukem engine was made open source too. And the Duke Nukem game is still possible.

I can’t see why letting people see your source code to make mods destroy a brand. More or less this is what the SourceSDK is about, give a big part of the code of the engine to modders. This has result in the creation of mods like Counter-Strike, Garrys Mod, Natural Selection and Empires for Half-Life. Team Fortress and Capture the flag for Quake.

I’ll do this in streaks, its fun to see how far along I can make it. After a few tries though I always get the urge to make bigger and better things so give it a rest. Oddly enough I don’t care about losing all that diamond gear to creeper attack when I know I’m just going to delete the world once I die. In my normal maps it just kills me heh.

I rarely die. The combat is just too simplistic and even bare-fisted you can easily punch away creepers and spiders before getting back to your safe house, and skeletons at this point are just a rhythmic dodging mini-game. Ever since the ore change, iron is ridiculously easy to get and you can build a full suit of iron armor with minimal exploration in any cave you find.
