I thought I listed that, modloader seems to want to be copied directly in. But I’ll watch the youtube video after work and see what simple step it is I’m missing.
Minecraft 4kids
My favorite new texture pack. Very cell shaded and Wind Waker-ish, and for what it’s trying to do, it does it excellently.
Screen 1
Screen 2
Screen 3
The torches and enemies (when killed) emit a very nice Wind Waker-ish swirly poof. I haven’t tried it with the shader mod to actually cell shade it, as I don’t think it’s updated, but it’s awesome as is.
I wish the water was a bit more lively, but so far this is one of the best texture packs of this sort that I’ve seen. The screens are from the 64 sized one, but I tried the 128 one with no ill effects also.

That does look nice, but now an important question. What does glass look like? That also appears to be an HD texturepack. Is it?
Yeah, it’s an hd pack in either 64 or 128 size and I think it looks better than screenshots really show.
As far as glass goes, I didn’t get around to making any last night so I’m not sure how it looks since I was playing around with new seeds.

I’ve given up on modes until Notch implements proper mod support. Having to screw with the jar file every time a new update is released is too much for me.
So I finally got to experience random weather. While cooking up some junk, all the sudden I heard a weird noise and looked out my shelter and it was absolutely pouring outside!
I took a stroll up top, and was immediately struck by the sudden urge to expand my shelter upwards and constructed a tower right there on the spot, which I then connected to my lower cave home. After carving out some windows, I then got to hear a whole herd of zombies, spiders and skeletons bang around my tower walls in the rain. Apparently they didn’t like getting wet, because they sounded pissed.
I hate to get all giddy over something so small, but that rain storm was the coolest thing I’d seen in a while and really provided a claustrophobic, yet wonderful atmosphere boost I hadn’t really been expecting.
TL;DR - Rain is awesome, mmmk.

Have you heard thunder yet? The first time I heard it I was spelunking for diamonds way deep in a cave system and it rattled my teeth. Very nice rich sounding thunder. I still haven’t seen a pig zombie yet though.
I’ve been randomly playing here and there, and still generating new worlds to mess with. This was actually the first weather event I’ve seen and I thought it was awesome.

Rain is cool, no doubt. Even though there’s no “getting wet,” I tend to go take cover under a tree. If lightning ever gets implemented, I’m probably going to regret that decision some day.
There’s lightning. I haven’t seen it strike anything yet though. I built a nice wooden house on top of a mountain peak to watch the lightning during storms. What could possibly go wrong?

Ahh, I hadn’t actually seen any lightning yet then.
This was mentioned in another thread by me, but it’s worth trying. Take a vanilla Mincraft load, run it once to get the initial directories built. Then run this:

You can even browse and download the mods directly from within his app, then run the game (assuming you tell it where the executable is.)
This is the kind of direction I had hoped for from Notch, but I have a feeling it will not be this easy.
There are thunderstorms which are similar to the regular rain showers, except the light level is a bit lower (letting monsters spawn in daylight), and you can hear thunder. They often seem to have a quick burst of activity at the start and then settle down into regular rain though, so the lightning can be hard to catch.
Lightning will set flammable things on fire, which is then immediately put out by the rain, but they can still potentially cause trouble. If you’re unlucky, the fire can spread to something nearby in that split second before it gets put out, and can then keep spreading to areas not directly hit by rain (usually because there is a block above them). A lightning hit on a wooden wall could burn down almost the entire wall except the topmost layer of blocks.
This sort of thing is why this game is sooooooooo gooooooooooood. Did you invite a family member over to see what you were seeing?
I do.
:nerd-fist-bump:
The first time I had it rain in game I called over all three kids and the Mrs to come see. Then the kids started fighting over who was going to log into the account they share to see it in their world first. I was so proud.

If you’re currently using minecart glitch boosters, that glitch has been removed according to Notch’s twitter. But, he’s also said that he’s increased the strength of the powered rail boosters, which are currently kind of weak in comparison.

The extreme speed of the glitched carts never made sense to me in terms of enjoying this game. It’s a shame people got used to that pace, and Notch took so long to patch it out that now he has to make carts faster to compensate.

Yeah, a fast transport mechanism that’s actually fast is clearly silly.

What is wrong with you? Seriously? You have this very debilitating inability to understand the purpose of a post, and instead impart meaning that isn’t there in order to just post some snarky shit. Why? Can you just not help yourself, or what?
Fast or slow isn’t the issue. It’s an issue of keeping the speed at a level that’s appropriate to the pace of the game. The glitch bug was overly fast. I thought his powered rail acceleration settings were perfect in the context of the game.
