True, but I’d say it’s more a factor of Notch wanting to separate himself from a visionary designer role for Minecraft. The first thing he did with the new Mojang company was start a new project that he’s always wanted to. Notch probably sees Minecraft development as shepherding it into “retirement” where others can make visionary decisions on it. I believe he said Minecraft2, if it happens, will not be developed by Mojang. Minecraft was never intended to have a final vision, but now he’s under pressure to provide one. The idea of a leveling system in Minecraft makes no sense and even runs counter to the system of crafting. Yet there’s been consistent muttering from a few certain critics who, ahem, point to Minecraft’s lack of traditional gameplay features as a fault. So, yeah Naeblis, congratulations, you’ve got Notch adding traditional RPG features to Minecraft now. No fucking clue what anyone would do with it though.

I have a smallish server I rent for me and some friends (has 20 slots). Our intention is to blow up the world when 1.8 comes out and start over, so it’s kind of a bunch of “what if” projects right now. If anyone is interested in a whitelist to bounce around in until then, shoot me a PM or something.

We run Pickboat, iconomy, Lockette, Worldguard, Worldedit, Heroicdeath, iconomydeath, mobbounty, vouchers, mcmmo, giant trees, Essentials, dynmap… most of them for absolutely no real reason.

BTW, have you guys ever used dynmap? what a truly awesome add-on!
this is our map, live as it happens: http://96.8.119.114:25571/

EDIT - our only real rule atm is Wheaton’s Law…

I hope you didn’t mind the intrusion. I honestly didn’t realize you could talk to the people in-game on that link. That’s… pretty damn cool.

That’s… pretty freaking awesome.

Holy crap. I was going to set up Tectonicus on a cron job or something to improve our cartography in general, but this might be better.

That is an amazing addon. Also Smittlers better not die

Yeah. That’s a long run back. :)

He has beaten the odds and gone a good hour without death. The dynmap add-on is very simple to use, and updates in real time. I dumped tectonicus as soon as I found this one.

The other thing is dynmap rebuilds itself in game, while you play without much overhead. There is no 3 hour render process.

And you may have missed this feature, but you can double click on players and follow them as they work. Also, there is an Iso view, and an underground xray view for each map you have. I only have the normal 1 world, 1 nether, but it will show all the maps you configure it for.

Wow. DynMap is indeed awesome. Just set it up for my own server and it works a treat.

Thanks for the tip.

Wendelius

This game need a “volcanic” biome. With lava lakes, and precious minerals on the surface…

I should’ve mentioned I need your mc login name to white list you, if you are PMing me for access =)

I was watching on my phone last night while someone was talking to Smittlers about not dying. So, so cool.

What is it about Minecraft (and to a lesser extent Terraria)? I open it up, and I am consumed with the urge to carve a house inside a mountaintop, surrounding a waterfall. I’ve spent at least four hours on this so far, and I’m still digging.

It’s the lego effect; you can build whatever you want.
Now imagine if the game had more craftables, more tiles, more STUFF.

It’s also the pleasure of exploring and surviving in enormous, unique game worlds.

The danger in leaking your potential future plans to your fans is that you might get shown up by them. The Aether mod, with far more than just a new map style to play in.

God damn…

Wow, I remember hearing about Aether as a WIP, but I had no idea…

Holy shit.

Quick question - I haven’t played this in a while, and I was wondering whether survival multiplayer “works” yet. I just wanted to check before I rented server space.
