I really like the new terrain and it’s running extremely smooth. It’s interesting how much more polished it seems compared to a year ago.
Time to obsess again.

Install 64 bit java if you have W7.

Hmm, do I need shears to make a bed now? For which I need iron? Suddenly iron has vastly grown in demand.
Thank you, this would have never occurred to me as being the problem. I’m running w7-64 and never thought to install java 64.
Either shear one sheep or kill three. If you kill a sheep it drops one piece of wool, shearing will give you three or four pieces. With the last few patches iron became really easy to get now. It’s in much larger quantities and with the new canyons you can get to it quickly.

Ohhh, I thought they just didn’t drop any now, and you HAD to have shears. Thanks!

Start by sprinkling bonemeal onto a mushroom.

You sure you did it right? I believe there’s a little bit of searching that needs to be done in order to do that… I think.

I don’t know if I did it right. Probably not. I downloaded this from here and installed it.

I found this post in some forum, but I can’t understand what this guy is saying.

If you’re using a 32-bit browser, I believe it defaults to Java 32.
Read the last section of the help page:

I found a challenging new seed: Gayle
You start as a castaway stranded on a deserted island…
He’s telling you how to allocate more RAM to a Java application (Minecraft). If you look around minecraftforum.net, there are 2 ways to do this:
[ul]
[li] Control Panel->Java – Search minecraftforum.net for: allocating-more-memory-to-java-windows (I think this affects all Java applications).[/li][li]Command line or .bat file – Run a command like the one in your link on Minecraft.exe.[/li][/ul]
I’ve also heard that reducing the viewing distance to <=Normal or turning off Smooth Lighting can help with out of memory errors.
Of course, a high-res texture pack also eats up a lot of memory.
Not sure what to do without any trees.

The ‘Tierney’ seed I tried earlier gives you one starting tree, though it’s a small one so you better hope it drops saplings!

It still runs acceptably for me but performance really has taken a huge dive and I don’t really see why.
