I really like the new biome code, but I’m looking for a seed that gives a running into a big ocean biome to start my next map on…still no luck on that score though. Hoping maybe I’ll have better luck in 1.9. If anyone has any good seeds, please post them here!

Did the vertical world get bigger or something? Seems like oceans have a more canyon-like depth to them.

I started up on that Tierney seed… this looks like fun.

Maybe this is an old change, but trees are growing much faster and bigger than the first time I played. I started on a mountain top with just a couple of trees, and I thought it would be tricky getting a good tree farm going so I could start producing charcoal, but they’re growing faster than I can cut them down after just a few days. A few of them are growing into the giant trees that used to appear only at world gen too.

Awesome starting location, in a mountain range between a swamp and a forest with lakes. I guess it’s not that special since the terrain generator is now making wall to wall awesome. There may be a few too many canyons though, they’re kind of all over the place.

I found an abandoned village right near my spawn point. This has proven to be the best thing ever. It’s like having the early, boring part of the game done FOR YOU.

The vertical space was increased, I forget the exact amount but it’s in the release notes.

I have noticed there are a lot more trees that I need to build small towers of dirt or whatever to fully chop down now – I definitely had less trouble chopping down trees when I played before.

I don’t think veritcal space was increaed though – he said he was going to make it easy for mods to do, but the base game would stay the same.

Also, share your seeds :)

The seed for my world with the village was, amusingly, “village”

Tierney so far doesn’t have any big land masses that I can see. But going out into the open ocean with a little boat is fun enough that I’ll keep searching.

Though the underwater horizon seems very buggy, it keeps flashing between two shades of blue.

Indeed, the vertical wasn’t increased, ocean biomes are just much deeper than before.

He made the world height much more easily moddable, but the default is still 128. What they did do though is lower the ocean height one block. If you have any existing worlds, there’ll be a weird waterfall effect along the boundaries between old and new bodies of water.

I played with the Gayle seed a bit too, and I managed to find a tree by swimming north a bit. Didn’t get a sapling from it so I made a boat and continued north, and eventually got one at something like -2000 X. I returned back to the spawn island, and I’ve got a few trees going now and have dug fairly deeply, but so far I have found around 20 iron and zero coal, so I’m having to make do with charcoal for now. I’m also pinning a lot of hopes on the tiny little farm with all of two planted seeds…

When did they add boats?

I hope that’s a joke.

You guys keep using the word boat, I’ve never looked at the wiki for recipies. The question is completely serious.

Boats were probably added about a year ago.

Another island start. That has a single tree: GiantRavine

Stumbled across a ship wreck start for those who want a little more challenge: Black Hole Islands

Fun Island start with a HUGE caverns beneath it.

You start with 2 trees and a flat island.

Nightfall

re: Nightfall

Whoa, those are some big caverns and the island is literally on top of them.

Careful for pitfalls, the island itself is only like 2 dirt layers and then drops into caverns.

I think this will be my island-in-the-middle-of-the-ocean world for now, thanks.

I don’t understand what the browser have to do with this. I’m not playing MC via browser.

Unless you manually downloaded 64 bit Java, it most likely defaulted to 32 due to browser.

I did manually download the 64bit version.
