I’m really not digging (hur hur hur) this new system of releasing pre-release versions and letting everyone beta test them for awhile and then sitting on them… I was hoping I could get 1.9 with the fixed biomes and get some custom packs running before the big release but it seems I’ll just have to wait for November sigh .

Ever have one of those nights where, after hours of epic exploration of distant caverns, infested mines, and treacherous ravines, you find yourself loaded down with coal, iron, gold, redstone, lapiz lazuli, and diamond, and as you prepare for the long ascent to the surface and trek home you decide to check out one more little cavern and FALL OVER A LEDGE AND GET GANGBANGED BY FUCKING CREEPERS AND DIE?
I hate when that happens.

could be worse… you coulda chopped one more gold block beneath your feet, and have it open to a river of lava…
I had a friend accidentally dig out the stone under me, which dropped me into a previously unseen lake of lava. I bobbed and simmered helplessly for a bit then it got very quiet.
I’ve also had a friend accidentally bump me over an edge into a deep chasm while exploring a giant cavern.
But my favorite, which I cannot blame a ‘friend’ on was building a bridge near the max height of the world without realizing the shift key keeps you from falling off ledges. It was a long way down…

The shift key function was probably the greatest single invention in Minecraft.
Too bad it doesn’t work on stairs and half blocks, as I’ve discovered more than a few times.

I think this is Mac only, but you can rebind the sneak key to Caps Lock and it’ll act as a toggle.
I’m having the worst luck finding diamond despite spending a lot of time down at 12.6, which everyone tells me is the magic level. I think I’ve seen a single diamond block in the 2 months I’ve played the game (and had a stone pickaxe at the time!).

I have a question about wolves. Does anyone know about the rules of when / where they spawn? I am playing with the Better Than Wolves mod and you need actual wolves for some things. When I first entered my world there were some wolves in one area. Since then they have despawned and I have been all over the place and can’t find any friking wolves anywhere.
Wolves just seem to be a lot rarer now that animal spawn are tied to the biome type. Try looking mainly in the heavily wooded areas; that’s where I remember seeing them recently.
Have the 1.9 prereleases fixed animal spawning yet?
Why is minecraft the only modding community I’ve seen that uses adf.ly (and their own custom ad site adraft.co) links behind their mod downloads?
I mean it’s gotten as bad as people posting screenshots behind adf.ly links.
Yeah, it’s pretty annoying. I don’t mind if I’m downloading their mod or texture pack, but let me view your fucking screenshots without having to mess with ads.
It’s really annoying with some of the mods where they’ve split it up into various components, client and server versions of each, and then put every dinky little 80kB file behind an adf.ly link. Downloading all of RedPower takes you through 14 interstitial ads. Whoops, a major bug needed to be fixed? 14 more ads…
There have also been reports of adf.ly serving up malware, though that’s hearsay.

You can use wood to tan leather in the latest version, it is quite expensive though.
Everyone wants their piece of the pie, even if it’s $7.50 a month.
It’s strange that it’s so prevalent on minecraftforums.net, but at dev.bukkit.org which is mainly for server mods (craftbukkit and its plugins) all URL shortening is banned. Both sites are part of the curse.com network.
That does sound pretty shitty.
Animal spawning is wonky now. It seems that mobs are persistent to specific chunks and don’t respawn or despawn. You can clear entire areas of all mobs and they will not spawn back. This does not apply to wolves and squids.
There’s a rather formidable thread on the subject on the Minecraft forums.
