Maps are in the PC version; do you mean just starting out with them?

Breaks day one record sales on XBLA over 400.000 copies and according to Notch on twitter paid the port development costs in one hour, pretty impressive.

Too old. We tried messing with it last night and the TV will only do 480p, not 720p, so there will be no splitscreen at all until we can secure an HDTV for him. The mini-media blitz leading up to the Minecraft 360 release really pushed that splitscreen was a part of the package, and it was pretty much the sole reason for buying it on the 360 if you already bought it on the PC (as we did).

Guess I’ll start scanning Craigslist for cheap smaller HD TVs.

Had a blast running through the tutorial and then setting up shop in my own place. A house made of glass blocks wasn’t as cool as I had hoped :)

I’m kicking myself for not buying the game when it was alpha/beta.

Man, I can’t wait for 1.3.0…large biomes! LARGE BIOMES!

Messing around with this on PC again after toying with the 360 version.

Anyone still playing on PC know a decent all-encompassing easy to install mod would be for the latest version of the game? I’m looking for something that adds more stuff to the game and perhaps improves textures and whatnot. Browsing the mods at the Minecraft site is practically useless since there are just shy of a million mods that do just about everything, and I just one a one-and-done deal.

That sort of depends what you’re looking for – the textures and everything, that’s for texture packs and mods don’t really handle those. I use the Dokucraft Customizer for my textures (http://minecraftcustomizer.net/pack/DokuCraft+-+The+Saga+Continues) but if you want something even higher-res or differently-themed there’s plenty out there for you.

For “added stuff”, are you looking for more creatures, or more stuff to build, or more resources, or? I have heard good things about the Technic Pack (http://www.technicpack.net/), which might fit your bill. The next release is going to mean some big changes for how mods are integrated into the Minecraft server though, so you may want to wait until after that. Myself, I prefer to stick with vanilla.

I am eagerly anticipating the next release though, for the large biome world type…as much as it pains me, I think I’ll be restarting my MP world when it comes out with one of those (plus, maybe I’ll have a jungle biome nearer to my starting location, and not so much snow).

The Technic Pack is the easiest way to install and run a whole bunch of mods. Just run the launcher, select which package you want, and log in and it’ll take care of the rest. The thing to watch out for is that there are a lot of versions of some of the packages, some versions are dev builds that aren’t necessarily stable yet, and you’re not guaranteed map compatibility between versions (e.g., you can’t carry a map from Technic 6.0 forward to 6.1 or 7.0).

The packages you can choose from are:
Technic: Basically as many mods as possible crammed together. Single-player only.
Tekkit: Multiplayer version, only really useful if you’re connecting to a Tekkit server.
Yogbox: Doesn’t have the more involved building mods like IC2/BuildCraft/Redpower and is instead more focused on exploring and survival. Single-player only.
Hack/Mine: An almost complete overhaul that makes it more RPG-like, with classes, spells, more traditional health and mana mechanics, way more aggressive enemies, etc. Single and multi-player.
Voxelbox: Apparently for connecting to a particular community’s server, don’t really know much else about it.

PERFECT! This looks like exactly what I’m after as far as modded content. A nice launcher package with the ability to add only what I want and not a lot of extra crap. Hack/Mine also looks really interesting.

Thanks guys!

DokuCraft looks cool for textures. I may poke around and see what else is out there. Will I run into issues using textures with mods like Technic? Is it an either or thing?

The only issue you may run into with mods and textures is that if the mods add a bunch of stuff, the texture pack might not have textures for those things. I think DokuCraft actually has textures for a lot of mods (look at the bottom of that page), but others, especially the high-res packs, probably won’t.

So my son and I were messing around with Hack/Mine tonight and WE LOVE IT. Totally changes Minecraft into something that is a lot more fun for two people to knock around in together. It was a challenge to figure out what to do at first, but once we got going we started to have a lot of fun. He’s playing a mage and I’ve got a ranger. I love the RPG dynamic, and once you;'ve got a bse of operations to work out of the high concentration of mobs doesn’t bother you as much. We found our first dungeon and have been exploring that. Still have yet to find any other humans (villagers) or merchants though.

It was kind of a pain in the ass to get working (I host the server locally, so some .jar tweaks were needed to the client and I had to figure out how to run a 1.2.3 Hack/Mine server locally without dorking up our other server setups), but once I hammered out the details it worked just fine.

Seems like Hack/Mine would be a fun mod server for a QT3 group to host/play!

Due to Minecraft XBLA, Minecraft has gotten a renaissance at my home, so I’d be up for that.

I am playing this almost non-stop on XBLA and if I am playing you can feel free to join.

If you don’t talk I will assume you don’t mind if I drop the world at any given moment. :)

Jeb posted something interesting looking on his twitter stream this morning – customization of villagers maybe?

That would be pretty awesome. Especially if I can start populating towns I build with villagers…

Thanks! I actually havent played around with multiplayer on Pc, so I am at a bit of a loss. How do I find and join your game?

That picture looks more like a bartering interface to me. I switched to creative mode to populate the town I built, my mountain castle can’t just lord over a bunch of sheep and pigs.

Hrm, maybe. Still, harder to do that with a multiplayer server. :/ They really need to add a way to create/import NPCs to towns…

I have a feeling it is buying and selling with the villagers with the red things being currency.

Stop giving money to Notch, he already have too much!

Sales of 9.2 millions. Goddamn.
