MineZ: http://www.reddit.com/r/MineZ/

It’s DayZ in Minecraft.

Note that it’s a custom server-side mod that is currently in private beta. The devs are taking donations of $25+ which grants you immediate access plus a few other bennies. Not sure how well the DayZ concept translates to the Minecraft crowd but it certainly bears watching.

I would buy the iOS version of he weren’t dragging his ass on updating it.

A heads up for people - Jeb tweeted that they’re trying to zero in on a release date for 1.3 (which will be the first major update in quite a while), and right now they’re aiming for August 1st. I’m looking forward to it myself, since I plan to start a new world with it, mostly for the large biome support.

kool. isn’t 1.3 supposed to include the new mod API also?

That’s been pushed out to 1.4; 1.3 will make the single player game essentially just a small multiplayer server though, so expect to see a consolidation of single/multiplayer mods and it adds the ability of opening your single-player world up to the LAN to let friends/family play with you easily.

Kick ass, that will be awesome for playing with my kids. I have a server set up, but being able to jump into each others single player worlds will be cool.

Wrong thread perhaps, but I’d be happier if they got to update the Xbox version instead of dragging their feet, leaving us back with the beta version.
Its a pretty fun game on the television with the kids, actually.

Right. And since a huge number of their customers are on the XBox now, I would think they would start to prioritize it. I wanna play adventure mode!

Mojang isn’t doing the Xbox version. They farmed it out to a third party I believe. Besides, they’ve sold 6.5 million copies on the pc and still only have one programmer on it.

Microsoft only gives them a few free updates anyway, and they had to negotiate for that. They certainly can’t do an update with every .1 release. I

1.7.3 for Xbox is in cert and 4J is already working on 1.8.

They are working on updating it, I’m just sure that it’s taking a long time. I’ve seen some tweets that they are negotiating with MS about having rentable dedicated servers, too. (I’d rent one in a heartbeat.)

My understanding is that they will then skip from Beta to release 1.2.3 or something like that.

Hey dudes, I haven’t played Minecraft, but check it out:

You can 3d model your mine or whatever and get it 3d printed!

That would be interesting. I wonder how much it costs to create a model and if they could make it so it could be broken apart. IE: You have a castle but you also want the inside to be visible.

Another amazing Minecraft thing on Kotaku today:

Also, We are getting pretty darn close to an actual 1.3 release. I am digging all the new changes coming up, especially those changes that add a bit to the whole RPG experience of Minecraft. my server is probably looking to start a whole new map so we can take advantage of emeralds, giant biomes, and the new villages. Also love the whole Books thing.

Does anyone know what Jeb means when he says he has stubbed in an “adventure” mode? If this is a scaffold for quests, jobs, or anything RPGly related, that could be a huge jump for Minecraft servers.

Man, I thought my little glass fortress was kinda nice. Then I see pictures like that and I get positively depressed…it seems I have no talent at all!

Won’t stop me from trying though.

To you, that picture will never be as memorable as your glass fortress because you built it.

I believe it’s currently just a mode that doesn’t allow the player to place or remove blocks, or use buckets, or set fires, etc. It’s for people who make adventure maps to give them a little more control over what the player can do.

I will never forget my first minecraft server, I builded a system of bridges and the city walls wen the server was small and a small city growed over there. It was like a first person Sim City with real humans and no llamas.

:) There, you made me feel better.

Yeah, I don’t understand the appeal of these mcEdit built monstrosities at all.
