Bah! It’s not Minecraft unless you can encase someone’s house in obsidian. :)

Good. I do not like it when people discount their own creations when they see something someone else did.

Minecraft needs more mobs and more tools (that are interesting - grappling hooks, dowsing rods, more weapons etc.). And some goals. Add that stuff and I will start playing again, Mojang.

Mods provide a lot of crazy stuff. The technic pack is a quick way to get going with a lot of it - by my god, the minecraft community is (literally) a bunch of 12 year olds. Impressive that they learned enough java to hack this stuff together, but digging through some of the forums makes official Blizzard forums look like a MENSA community.

I love tekkit, a friend and I have a nice server going for it. Lots of fun to build when you have all those machines around.

My server is 18+ only. strictly upheld, if anyone is looking to get their Minecraft on. It’s a fairly vanilla MC server, with about 350 peeps in the whitelist, and about 10-20 online usually. We run with McMMO and Magic Spells, if that interests you. Shoot me a PM if interested.

P.S. if anyone has ever thought about renting an MC server, I highly recommend Beastnode.net. The server runs all on SSD drives with very little lag, and no real over selling as far as I can tell. The owners also have an uncanny ability to actually reply to your support tickets in a timely manner =) I’ve been with them for a year now, and am very happy with the service.

Thank you for the offer, but it is really my kids that play (mostly single player). I just try to set up mods and texture packs for them, because it is such a sad state of affairs that it takes a LOT of work without something like technic or magiclauncher to bring some sanity to it all. They probably would have been just fine with vanilla - but I like to overwhelm them with doodads :)

Conan O’Brien reviews Minecraft.

Really nice looking graphics upgrade for Minecraft:

Love the lighting.

Oh nice, they added water shaders. That was sorta the only reason I didn’t keep using Sonic Ether’s shaders, because it was nearly impossible to get working with the water shaders.

Unfortunately it looks like the bloom is still overdone.

I like it, I think. Truly part of the charm is the retro-graphics. That said, it is pretty and it doesn’t actually take much away from the original look, it just makes it look better.

I think the blocks themselves do a good job of keeping the retro look. The high quality lighting and shaders add a naturalistic tone that I love since the landscape generator in Minecraft makes some cool stuff.

Haha! That was great! Love the rating system.

some interesting changes in 1.3 not mentioned in patch notes, non-combat activities give experience now. so far i’ve gotten exp from mining coal, smelting materials (on furnace removal).

levers on ceilings = OMG IT’S A WHOLE NEW GAME for me.

At this point I’m hearing about enough new things since I’ve played that I’m close to loading it up again.

We’ll see you in a week or so.

Has patch 1.3 already hit, then?

Some video showing 120 things I didn’t know about Minecraft is exposing a whole slew of shit I haven’t heard of. For instance, I had no idea dragons and nether fortresses were in the game.

Link to that video?

I’ve been playing the 360 version a lot lately, and I’m itching to get back into the PC version. Any recent mods or texture packs that people are big on?
