Interesting…

whoa… that sounds great.

Yep, it sure does. Currently Beta, but definitely sounds deep and engrossing, something for later while i learn how normal minecraft works (i’m rubbish so far in the few attempts i’ve given it!) and read up on some game guides etc. The idea of building a hobbit hole, in a hobbit town is very alluring.

That sounds pretty good!

I have to wonder… what other big mods that… let’s say, turn Minecraft into a more “normal video game experience” (with quests, factions, trading, hiring in this example) are out there? I’m totally out of my element about Minecraft, even if I have a bought license when the craze for the game.

I spent altogether too long reading the wikia for that mod. It sounds amazing!

You begin in the Shire which is devoid of monsters (the Rangers of the North keep them at bay, of course!) so you can take your time getting started.

I’m thinking I might put this up on my server to try

Do it! It’s entirely possible to have players go EVIL and raise armies to battle the GOOD guys. The map is enormous though and just getting to, say, Mordor, would take hours. However, there is fast travel once you unlock it for a region.

I’m currently taking my time with Life in the Woods, and at my current rate of progress, and time for Minecraft, well those Rangers of the North may have to keep holding the line versus Evil all by themselves for a little while. Thanks very much however for bringing this to all our attention, it’s full of awesome sauce from what i’ve read on it.

Something like 2 1/4 books time I figure

I was just totally engrossed into Minecraft automation for two weeks using mods like EnderIO, Applied Energistics, Thermal Expansion, and Minecraft Factory Reloaded. By the end I had a fully automated mining, processing, and manufacturing center including farms that would automatically raise and slaughter livestock and even Endermen, Ghasts, and Blazes.

Careful with the automated livestock though, its really easy for them to get loose. Just like a wild animal they always find a way, and then unlike a wild animal 6000 of them get stuck in some forgotten hall way dropping your fps from 120 to 8. That’s where I discovered there is an upper limit on how many creatures TNT can kill in one explosion. I depleted my sizeable store of gunpowder killing them all off.

These mods (or more specifically the older buildcraft) are what inspired my game of the year Factorio and I loved checking them out.

Gendal, if you like that you may also want to give “Crash Landing” a go. It’s is a difficult hardcore mod where you are crash landed on a dust filled planet, and must find food, water, and shelter to survive day to day. It gets progressively more complex as you go down the quests. YOu can install it easily using the FTB installer.

Qt3 LOTR SERVER!

Because I was bored, I set one up. What you must have to play:

  1. In the MC launcher, ensure that you have set up and RUN a 1.7.10 profile;
  2. Latest version of Forge set up (1224) on your MC client.
  3. LOTR mod installed per the instructions at http://www.minecraftforum.net/forums/mapping-and-modding/minecraft-mods/1287390-the-lord-of-the-rings-mod-bringing-middle-earth-to
    3a. Install Optifine
  4. Look for the server at 98.247.43.247

Tried hoping in, but I am stuck at logging in… I’m not 100% sure I have it installed properly though. Will double check.

It says you’re just missing one mod; try installing Optifine, I’m using it.

Found out what you were “missing” – replace your current Forge version with 1224.

Neat. Been looking for my next minecraft experience, so I’m going to give it a try. Because I’ve never actually played on a server before. :/

Reminder about LOTR mod:

When you first enter, you’re in normal minecraft. Have fun doing whatever you want there. You have to take a portal to get to Middle Earth.

So yeah: there can only be one Portal to ME, and I built in deep in a mine :) Lots of goodies down there though. There should be signage leading you down Splatticvs Mine.

  1. In the MC launcher, ensure that you have set up and RUN a 1.7.10 profile;
  2. Latest version of Forge set up (1224) on your MC client.
  3. LOTR mod installed per the instructions at http://www.minecraftforum.net/forums...iddle-earth-to
    3a. Install Optifine
  4. Look for the server at 98.247.43.247

I think that only one portal can be created per game - so the first portal made by tossing the golden ring into the fire is the only portal available. If I read the wiki correctly.

Wtf totally getting on this right now

Your instruction link is broken

And I’m in I take it no one has made the portal yet?

His link four posts above is correct though.
