Yeah i’m sort of in that boat too. Even more so when you have to make a choice of updating Minecraft and breaking your mods, or just sticking with the game as you have it set up. I’m still running 1.6 because the mods i need to enjoy minecraft are ‘stuck’ with this older version, and it does not detract any from my enjoyment.

Also now that MS own Minecraft i’m finding that has put an effective damper on my desire to download the new stuff, i’m sort of fully expecting a ‘World of Tanks’ type transformation as it moves to being all about PvP combat and less the depth of crafting/mining/building/exploration that was the games traditional strength, and what separated it from other MMO type games (if you play Minecraft on a server etc).

What you expect doesn’t quite match the current reality, Zak. So I’m not sure why it would put a damper on your current enthusiasm for the game before anything of the sort happens.

Seems to me it’s often the modders who are more into creating battle royale type features and competitive gaming support.

We still play mostly vanilla at home. We’ve played with mods and the kids are old enough to know how to set up a server with mods.

But they enjoy the pure experience of restarting a new server semi regularly and exploring and building up a fresh new world together.

They do use the snapshots to get more regular updates, but that’s generally enough for them.

We’ve had a vanilla server going for a year that’s fun to add to and shorter survival experiences.

I just find the mod packs cluttered with too much stuff, personally. And I think Mojang has done a good, if slow paced, job if keeping the game interesting to play and explore.

You don’t have to make that choice, just run a manager like MultiMC - you run any version you want, with any mod config. Super simple.

Personally I’m pretty excited to see what MS does with the VR version. I’ve been playing Minecrift which was recently updated for latest Oculus drivers, but that’s still using Minecraft 1.7.10. Even so, the game is glorious in VR.

I feel the same about modpacks…just looking at the “Controls” page makes me cringe what with all the key mapping conflicts. shudder

Frankly, as an explorer/adventurer sort of player, I’d like to see more from Mojang in the way of new biomes, mobs, and structure generation. Basically, new stuff to discover.

So much this. I have not played MC for an eternity, but I don’t care for deep combat and potions and other crap like that - I can go play DS for that fix. My favorite MC moments were those of discovery through exploration of the world.

Right there with ya Paul. I’d love more stuff to find and more types of places to explore. I’ve tried out some modpacks but like Wendelius said, most just pack TOO much stuff in there. But that being said, I haven’t played any Minecraft in awhile, so might fire it up and give a new world a go. I’ve always been a sucker for shields lol.

I have only one Mod I can’t seem to live without. The one that chops a whole tree down when you cut the base.

does anyone know what this one is? Or if it’s updated for the new 1.9 version yet?

But then you can’t cut down a forest and then set fire to the leaves in the sky.

Anyone else having crash issues since the update?

OK lemme get ALL my ignorance outta the way here:
Buying the Windows 10 version isn’t cross buy with Xbox? WTF I thought that was the whole point of Xbox on Win 10
I can’t play in Win 10 in fing full screen mode?
The Win 10 version is back on version 1.4 and the cool new stuff I thought I was getting for my $10 is all in 1.9 only on Xbox?

WTFingF?

The new boats are awesome which are are coded to calculate client-side and they don’t smash when hitting frickin lily pads now so it’s smooooth sailing and they have room for a passenger (mob only I think)! Huge improvement and now long, lazy river journeys with a pet are a thing.

Actually, the new 1.9 stuff is only in the Java version for PC.

The Win10 and mobile versions are way behind.

The Xbox One/360/PS4 version is somewhere between.

Yes, please! I’d love that too.

My daughter and I have been enjoying your new “back to my roots” series in 1.9, by the way. We’ll likely be jumping back in on a fresh server this weekend. Time to explore!

Wendelius

There are a few that do this, including Lumberjack. I don’t know if it’s updated though.

It’s been a warm welcome back to MC after a year off and I just love the early progression and exploring! You should definitely give it another go!

Thanks Telefrog.

No cross buy and no full screen?

Ooo that sounds like a new video series in the making I think. Time for you and your trusty dog to hit the river Paul!

Yeah, soon! Took a pink sheep out for a cruise today and it was flawless!

Woah i missed this news for the last month or so! It looks like Phedrun has released her new modpack: Life in the Woods Renaissance.

http://www.lifeinthewoods.ca/index.html

And she has some let’s plays up of it too:

I know really nothing about it, but i loved her first Life in the Woods modpack, so i’m chomping at the bit to find out more. Hmm i hope this is slightly easier to install than the old one (Shaders etc were the tricky bit). But awesome minecraft news :)

Microsoft adding official PvP to Minecraft, including map pack DLC.
