The entire point of lanterns is that they don’t go out, so including fuel in the crafting recipe would be a bit odd.

make 2 cells deep hole, put lava, and finish with 1 glass = cheap lantern that cost you no iron.
if where me? using one of these algorithms…
also, maybe adding some rules like desert and winter can’t touch each another.
then you work on the mixing biomes, maybe add new cell blocks, like a new type of grass that only exist between deserts and normal climate areas.

Desert and winter cant touch each other? This cant be simply because you don’t understand english very well - your grammar is way too good. Are you from somewhere where language structure is completely different, russia/china?

Not odd at all if you consider the fuel component will most likely be required to craft the lantern at all…it will be an integral part of the recipe. That doesn’t mean it needs to be replenished–it just needs to be supplied when you make the lantern.

Not all the recipes make perfect sense. 3 sticks from one plank gets me a whole fence, but I need 6 planks and a stick for one wooden sign? And four torches right now last forever with one piece of coal. So I don’t find the notion that 1 coal might light a lantern forever all that odd.
I’m imagining that one lantern right now will require one coal, meaning spending a bit more time acquiring coal before one can safely light lots of areas.

I didn’t realize the day/night cycle was so short. Maybe two in-game cycles then.
I don’t think the torch thing is a bad idea. Torches are so cheap to make that I don’t have to work to hard to light a cavern and make it safe from spawns. I’ve always got hundreds of them on hand. Having what exists as torches now getting changed to lanterns and being a bit more costly to produce seems fine and seems to preserve the balance of challenging/scary/fun.
YMMV, since I’ve heard of people having a hard time finding coal.
Also, aesthetically, lighting up a house with lanterns might look a bit cooler.

Can’t change the position of the animated fire though, that will always be on top of the torch graphic.

One thing I’d really like to see is dynamic lighting from torches. I should be able to hold one in my hand and have it cast light around me.

He did include “fewer bugs” in MP, but I doubt everything will work.
Either way, pretty excited for the biomes and fast travel. That means I can finally restart and dedicate my train-making to its true purpose - fast way of getting into (and out of) the deeps. :)
