The DNS name is failing to resolve for me now. I’m not sure if this is a temporary glitch or if someone needs to renew something.

They could be moving servers around – if they’re resetting DNS records (to point various things to different places), you might see problems like that. I don’t think it’s a domain renewal issue.

DNS glitch would be very scary, because I stopped doing it myself and started relying on Linode’s DNS servers a few months ago.

But right now it seems the reason you can’t connect is because minecraft.net is alternately slow/down, and the client has to authenticate the server with them before you can hop on.

It’s not even getting to the point of trying to authenticate, though; just doing an IP lookup on qt3minecraft.dyndns.org returns an NXDOMAIN error.

Edit: Though it might be moot for now since they’re giving up on the minecraft.net migration until tomorrow.

Oh, I don’t control that. I forget who does, mixuk perhaps? Try messaging them.
Anyway, the current canonical address is qt3minecraft.project357.com. The dyndns domain is just a pointer to that.

Is that just cactus or does wheat do that too, now? I’d love to automate food production like that.

Edit: oh I guess wheat doesn’t grow upwards, does it. Er, or does it? I haven’t been reading the patch notes in a while.

Nah, wheat remains only one block high. Sugar cane grows higher, but it doesn’t pop off, so I think cactus is the only one that can be auto-harvested.

Speaking of which, I added a new tower with a design more like the one Wendelius linked, with only a 7x7 footprint, and it now generates about 420 cactus/hour, 270 of which is just from the tower. I think I’d better stop here before my min/maxing tendencies kick in any harder…

I am absolutely amazed at some of the creations. I went what felt like several miles deep opening and exploring a pit mine that fed from a small cave. And down waaaaaay at the bottom, after scaling down the side of many tubes, what do I find? Some torches, a few chests and the remains of when someone else had been through there. I expected to find a sign that said “Kilroy was here.”

So, as a project to myself, I am going to try to create a “regulation” size American football stadium near the entrance to the frontier (right beside my (Udry) swimming pool area. I am abstracting that 1 block is roughly a yard long in my measurements, so the field will be 50 blocks wide (including sideline blocks) by 120 blocks long (including endzones)

If anyone has extra white wool laying around, I would appreciate donations, as this being the frontier, I am doing this without summoning, and need a lot of white wool for the yardlines and hashmarks. I have plenty of stone for the stadium itself (the walls and stuff I was building there will be torn down to provide that.
