Hoo boy, it’s going to be rough if we get lost and can’t find our location on the map. On the other hand, working minecarts! woooooo!

Why he removed /home?
Modders are going to re-add it, with sethome and other teleport commands.
Are these “orfaned entities” actually ghost of players left behind after teleportations, and his fix is disabling /home? because is these ghost are the ones creating the lag, he sould inform or comment about it, or the modders are going unaware screwn things…
tl;dr
OMG, NOTCH KILLED THE GHOST PLAYERS THAT WAS CAUSING THE LAG!.
It’s already in server mods like hey0’s. I don’t think it was ever intended to be a permanent feature, since it is still Survival Multiplayer, it was just a debug/testing/goofing off tool while SMP was still in progress.

The tradition about games with persistent worlds is to have some type of “/rekall” command for players stuck or lost.
Withouth such commands, all the weight to “rescue” people end on the admins hands, and is a chore.
Now… this is not the point of my comment.
The point was to ask why he did that. If he removed /home, because was the one that was creating ghost player objects, or for other reason?
add feferrel pretty please, been lurking for awhile

If somebody adds you before adding me I shall silently nerdrage.
That is a promise.
Minecarts seem to work pretty damn well. Next night I’m bored I’ll get on and make a highway that connects more than just me and Fastidious.
I’m building a track from spawn to the frontier, it’s buggy and incomplete at this point but I should finish it within a week or so.
Unless anyone wants me to hang onto it for a while longer, I am going to dismantle the mini rollercoaster at my frontier base and use the tracks for the highway.
Please add Tenshiko. She’s a trustworthy friend of mine.
Added Tenshiko. Not adding feferrel, post more sorry. Anyone else missed?

Much appreciated, I shall now go and look upon marvelous creations while straining my feeble imagination to come up with something interesting. While not carrying a lava bucket.
Game is entering BETA 12/20/10 , price increase to follow , also BETA buyers will not get content updates after RETAIL for free.

That doesn’t make sense. There’s no reason he needs to make alpha buyers feel special. We got a ton of game at a great price and with updates. If Beta buyers are paying a higher price, why do they get less support after retail, and why even split the game into two levels of support?

Free access to all future updates is somewhat more substantial than feeling special.
There’s still 9 days to get in on the alpha…
And you can buy alpha versions for friends and gift them later! (or so he mentioned in his blog).
he’s giving a big thank you to the early adopters that gave him the funds to start his company without having to go into debt. thats kind of a big deal. and like fenris99 said, there is still a 1 week window to get in on the alpha offer. plenty of opportunity and noone to blame but themselves if they drag their feet.
