I can’t tell if you’re being sarcastic or not. “What a great atmosphere.”

I have to take solace in the fact that the Mets are still playing spoiler to the Braves. And maybe Jose Reyes will win the batting title.

I’m not. The staff were all extremely friendly and the lounge was great to go sit in, grab some food, and listen to the radio announcers when it looked like rains were about to roll in. The actual seats also had a great view, mezzanine level at first base with the only area of the field out of view being a small part of the right field corner.

For one night, I was able to pretend I was some rich, business hotshot instead of a poor college student. :)

Berkman signs a 1-year extension to play with the Cardinals next year. He, uh, may be able to get his old number back.

Kinda fitting that the Cardinals season comes to an end today for all intents because Tony LaRussa once again fucked up his handling of the bullpen.

Inexplicable.

What happened to Phil Hughes? He was suppose to be the Yankees #2 or 3 pitcher coming into the season but he’s disappeared off the map after having good season last year. I know he went on the DL earlier in the season for “dead arm” issues but I don’t think he was heard from again.

He’s been heard from. He returned to the regular rotation in early July, after which he’s been so-so with 12 starts, a 5-4 record and a 5-ish ERA. He was supposed to start game 1 of the doubleheader yesterday but was scratched with a bad back.

The way I’d handle Hughes for the postseason would be to include him on the roster as emergency long relief. You’ve got CC 1, Nova 2, and then either Colon or Garcia as your #3, and I’d keep Hughes in the wings as insurance in case someone gets rocked early.

Also, what’s happening right now in Cards/Mets is crazy.

Edit: And it’s over. The Cards blow a 6-1 lead and give up six runs in the 9th to lose 8-6 to the Mets.

As much as I liked spoiling the Braves, I can’t say I’m disappointed.

That closes out the Mets road games for the year where they went 43-38 which is pretty great. That’s tied for third (I’m assuming the Cards will pass them) in the NL. Too bad their home record is 31-44, only better than Houston and Florida. Yeesh. I don’t know how to explain that one, especially when last year they were much better at home and sucked on the road.

Oh Thongsy! Things are not looking good for the Giants (boo hoo). If Kuroda can get to Jansen, it’s lights out!

(I know for sure that these words will come back to haunt me but I really hope we can put the Giants out of the playoffs).

Gotta love Baumgartner tonight!

Well the magic number is 2 so it isn’t happening tonight. Well, I know the Giants aren’t going to make the playoffs since there is 6 games or so left and unless Arizona goes on losing streak to end the season the Giants are done. It was a good season, disappointing with all the injuries and how it ended but at least it was a fun ride while it lasted. Maybe in a couple of years they can swipe Kemp and Ethier from the Dodgers.

I don’t see Ethier staying with the team, as he’s been affected by the drama and I’m not sure the team wants him any longer since his fiasco with TJ Simers of the LA Times. Kemp however definitely wants to stay, and with Dave Stewart as his agent, he probably will.

Colletti keeps saying he want to sign both Ethier and Kemp to long-term deals, though. And there has been some talk recently that MLB will make sure the Dodgers have the money to be reasonably active in the offseason, so I doubt there is going to be a fire sale. And the Dodgers still control Ethier, so it doesn’t make sense for them to offload him when it does not appear they have a cheaper replacement in the minors to take his spot.

No they won’t offload Ethier we’ve gone over that. But I’m going to be very curious about the extension they will offer him.

The big question is will they keep Loney? I believe he’s arbitration-eligible this winter. He’s gotten way better since the old hitting coach was fired.

The MLB is threatening to throw the Dodgers out of the MLB.

“The sale proposed in the media rights motion – the centerpiece of the [Dodgers’] sole reorganization strategy – is dead on arrival,” the filing read.

The current Fox Sports contract with the Dodgers expires in 2013, and Fox holds exclusive negotiating rights for another 14 months. A sale of TV rights now not only would subject the Dodgers to significant damages in a lawsuit from Fox, baseball argued, but could result in MLB discipline up to and including the team’s suspension from the league.

The filing also cites three other grounds for possible MLB action against McCourt, including the Dodgers’ dismissal of league-appointed trustee Tom Schieffer upon filing for bankruptcy.

“No one will pay the [Dodgers] to broadcast Dodgers games if the club is not part of Major League Baseball,” the filing reads. “Consequently, the [Dodgers’] path in this case is a dead end or worse.”

Well take back what I said because no player will sign with the team if the MLB is going to throw the team out of the league. SIGH. What an asshole.

I don’t understand why the divorce court hasn’t resolved things one way or the other by now. It seems stupid that this is taking so long and I don’t know why they keep giving Frank McCourt extensions when they know his Dodger issues are going to take forever to sort out. Once they finalize the divorce then Frank McCourt’s situation and ability to own the team (or not) going forward will be clear. Instead the divorce proceedings leave his financial situation in limbo.

The divorce trial isn’t scheduled yet. Earliest is late spring and clearly MLB doesn’t want to wait that long.

That’s my point - the court is letting Frank delay it because he wants to get the Fox deal done so he has the cash to pay off his wife and still keep the team, even though that will come at the expense of the team. The court should have told him enough was enough, though I suppose his wife and her lawyers have a part in this as well. Don’t forget they filed for divorce almost two years ago and at this point the court has spent more then enough time figuring out the financial assets they have to split.

On another MLB related note, what do people think about Cashman’s admission that the Yankees never had any real interest in Crawford last year and simply pretended to drive up his price?

What happened was I kept him at $4 on my keeper league, thinking he’d give me decent stats and rack up the Wins…So my apologies for that. Also for Wang’s 3 start massacre to begin 2009 for similar reasons.

People who are familiar with family law say that the it is likely that Jamie McCourt will not be awarded half the team. This is because of a court ruling in a similar situation. See this.

Why would MLB want to wait for a situation that is totally outside of its control when it in fact totally controls what will eventually happen to the Dodgers? If it goes through with removing the Dodgers from the MLB, there won’t be much discussion of who owns them.

Well, Brewers, Rangers and the DBacks all clinch their respective divisions today.
