Sorry sluggo. Glad your team is moving on Ryan. And so goes the AL East.

At least this doesn’t feel like a brutal loss to a “lesser” team. We knew the Tigers were for real going in, although it’s a little frustrating to watch the Yankees bats fall asleep in the playoffs again. 2 runs against Not Verlander just shouldn’t happen.
Well, on the other hand you got a good one out of Burnett so it sort of evens out.

Yay Tigers!
I didn’t think the Yankees would go far this year with that pitching and so it turns out.
And the White Sox hired Robin Ventura to be their new manager. Seems to be drawing a “WTF?” response from the baseball media as a whole since he has no managerial or coaching experience in the minors or big leagues and wasn’t known for his baseball acumen during his career.
Goodbye, Yankees! Ya fascist scum!
For reasons that defy explanation, my twitter feed now includes Torty Craig (Allen Craig’s pet tortoise), Sir Glovington A. Wilson (Jason Motte’s glove), and The Busch Rally Squirrel.
I love October baseball!

One of my colleagues here at work, a Yankee fan, is cursing A-Rod a blue streak this morning. I heard something like “6 more years of this shit” at one point.
You are right, I didn’t have the TV broadcast on that day, I was listening to radio out of Detroit. But still, Verlander is arguably the MVP of the American League this year, so mooning over him at least makes sense. With Cano, he may be the best hitter for the Yankees, but there are at least two Tigers with better stats than him this year in Cabrera and Martinez, and they didn’t get NEARLY the attention Darling was giving Cano.
Well, poop. I was hoping for an '09 WS rematch. Now it looks like both teams might snooze their way into an early finish. Should be some great games tonight, though.

Personally, I’m pulling for the Redbirds tonight so all this nonsense about teams being able to buy championships can be put to rest. If Philly loses, the Tigers will have the highest payroll in the playoffs at #10 overall ($105,700,231 according to USA Today). Either way I hope the games are close.
Yes, for the first time in baseball history the teams with the highest payrolls will not win the World Series.
What?

You must not root for a small-mid market team who trots that out as the reason they can’t be competitive in most years. Also, did you miss where I said it was nonsense?
Ozzie had no managerial experience either when the WSox picked him as manager. Larry Dierker and Hal McRae are a couple other guys with no experience as manager who went on to manage their former teams with some success.
I love watching the Yankees lose. Not enough to make up for the scourge they are on baseball in so many ways, but I’ll take the little victories.
Yeah, I agree with that part. I just don’t think this will put anything to rest since it’s really nothing new. Spending money over the very long term probably means more WS wins for the Yankees/Red Sox/Phillies but in any given year lots of things can and do go wrong for the guys with all of the money. That’s why we keep watching :)

I wish I could say I feel sorry for the Yankees but haha I don’t. Rooting for my boy Verlander, they have a very good team this year.
Not sure who I see coming out of the National League. If the Phillies get rolling they should with that pitching staff of theirs but the other Brewers, Cards, and D-Backs are just as dangerous.

I’d agree that the teams generally will do better by spending more, but the trend of outrageous payrolls has really taken off in the last 10 years, imo, and the smaller market teams (at least here in Cleveland) are using that as an excuse to put a mediocre product on the field. But yes, a toast all around to watching the underdogs find ways to win :)
