Cool, that’s what I figured. I half tuned out as the beating continued and wasn’t really watching who the Nats were throwing out there.
In fact, I’d take the Nats 8th-9th inning pitchers (Clippard and Storen) over just about anyone else’s in the NL except Cincinnati’s (Sean Marshall and Chapman).

I have never in my life seen the circus act that just took place on that play at the plate with Ichiro.
(Warning: link plays music when clicked. If you’ve seen the play, you can probably guess the song…)
Jaime Garcia reveals during the game that his arm was hurting, sent for an MRI after the game and will be removed from the postseason roster. I guess they replace him with Shelby Miller?
It’s a three-game series in New York now! Orioles tie up the series at one.

Luckily that base-running bungle by Hardy didn’t cost them the game…the Yankees lineup is ridiculous. A 40 HR guy hitting 8th? Only in NY…
Now that Texas is out, I’m really hoping Baltimore or Oakland somehow takes the series.
Giants live for one more day! It was an ugly win but I’ll take it.

Holy &*@# Crisp caught that?
Good job by the Giants staying alive.
Tigers drop game 3 in Oakland, 2-0. The boys are very lucky not to be down 2-1 and facing elimination tomorrow…thank that Crisp error in game 2. As it is, winning one of the next two won’t be easy if the As keep up this level of pitching and defense.
Cardinals aren’t wasting any time in Washington, it’s 4-0 already in the 2nd.
The Cardinal radio announcers are fun to listen to. The play-by-play guy sounds like my Uncle Bud, lays on the Midwest accent with a trowel. When something good happens for St. Louis, he doesn’t really get excited, just sounds sort of satisfied. But when something bad happens…you’d think his dog had died. It’s not a Hawk Harrelson level of homerism, but it’s definitely noticeable.

The TV broadcast is being handled by the MLB Network, which has something you haven’t heard in 12 years: a playoff baseball game being announced by Bob Costas.
It’s John Rooney and Mike Shannon. Love those guys. When I lived in Chicago, I thought the White Sox radio combo of Rooney and Ed Farmer was the best radio play by play I’d heard since Jack Buck and Mike Shannon back in the day. Was thrilled when Rooney–a Mizzou guy–had his contract run out in Chicago and the Cardinals brought in.
Shannon is just…Shannon. He’ll be drunk in a few innings, and will likely become steadily more incoherent. Dude is a legend in STL; folks who saw him in high school and college still insist he was the best natural athlete they’d ever seen. Been broadcasting Cardinal games since his career ended prematurely from kidney disease in 1970.
Oh, and Rooney does fantastic voice imitations of other announcers. His Vin Scully is particularly good, but he can do Jack Buck, Jon Miller, Harry Caray, Harry Kalas, and Earnie Harwell very convincingly as well.

Presidents Race has gone Gangnam Style. All four presidents doing the horsey. I kid you not. #nlds Fan-fave Teddy eventually wins.
Joe Sheehan @joe_sheehan
If Teddy is any more successful, they’re going to shut him down.

Definitely wasn’t pretty, but it does give me hope. That game was a great opportunity to put SF away and they blew it. Bailey was dealing and the Giants offense was hopeless. The Reds will be very, very lucky to see the same combination of superlative pitching and lackluster offense from the Giants.
That said, the Giants looked absolutely awful against Leake earlier this year.

Man, the Cards are cruising so far today. This will be an interesting final two games in Washington if this score holds up.

Speaking of radio announcers, for some unfathomable reason ESPN Radio had Chris Berman doing the Giants-Reds game yesterday. He is abysmal. Sounded bored out of his mind, even though it was an exciting game that went into extra innings.

And here’s Lincecum out of the bullpen (a phrase that still feels bizarre to me) with a big strikeout to keep this to a 3-2 game.
Man, if they push this to a game 5 with Cain on the mound, that’s going to be tough for the Reds.
