I think people don’t like Buck’s voice or his smarmy face.
I’ve come around on him. He’s as LOT (lot lot lot lot) better at his job than so many guys.
Buck’s affect comes across as disinterested and bored at times, even though he may not actually be. He can sound very monotonous.

Buck has an incredible voice. Haven’t always been in love with his content, but he is good at the craft of announcing for sure.

I went to High School with Joe. He’s been totally immersed in sports his whole life. He’s also a very nice guy.
I think much of the hatred is based on the feeling that he got his awesome job because of his father. That’s partly true, of course, but he also happens to be an excellent broadcaster. Here in STL, we also get a lot of anger at the fact that he’s not a homer. When he said he’d love to broadcast a Cubs world series, some of the local idiots went batshit. Of course, these are the same ‘fans’ who wanted Tony LaRussa fired every year.
I guess I’ll be the one to against the grain and admit that I enjoy the Fox broadcast team. The play-by-play is good, and the color commentary by Harold is… colorful. It keeps me entertained during each game. When I couldn’t watch the previous series because it was on FS1, I had to listen to the radio and hear other commentary, I thought that sounded more boring. Their color commentary guy has nothing entertaining to add. At least Harold sounds like he’s always setting up a punch line. Even if the punch line never comes.
Ooh, I’m stealing that.
I don’t usually notice color commentary, so the only thing that bothers me about Harold is when, every now and then, he sort of breaks the surface, and you can tell he’s getting a glimmer of recognition that he’s not making much sense. But then he just takes another breath and burbles back under, like a free diver pootling about in a lagoon, looking at all the baseball-shaped fish.
Solo home run to start the game for the Mets. This is going to be a long night as a Royals fan. But they’ve come back so many times this post season I can never give up on them.

Let the man finish his game.

@OldHossRadbourn There’s a reason you’re dead, pal.
Harvey wanted to be Bumgarner / Jack Morris. Didn’t work.
Ridiculous. You don’t do that on your potentially last game with a pitcher who is on his last legs in both the game and the season, not to mention not far removed from surgery all things considered. Dumb dumb dumb.

Yeah, the moment got to Collins there for sure. A good throw would have nailed Hosmer at home though but that definitely fit the Royals style well.
I love that the KC dugout has enough enthusiasm to emulate a home crowd.
You gotta give the Mets credit. When they implode, they don’t do it by halves.
Was wrong about Familia, but otherwise had it pretty well. Royals much the better team.

A wise choice, it turns out.
In 2010, Zack Greinke went to the Royals and told them he wanted out. He was sick of the losing. He wanted to play for a winner. Wanted to play for a team that was going to win a World Series. That’s what he wanted.
Dayton Moore realized he had no choice. Greinke was headed for free agency in a season. Had to trade the guy who didn’t want to be a Royal. So he sent Greinke to Milwaukee, for Lorenzo Cain and Alcides Escobar.
Five years later, and Zack Greinke has never pitched in a World Series game. Meanwhile, Alcides Escobar and Lorenzo Cain just finished their second World Series, and have won their first championship, as Kansas City Royals. The team Greinke wanted to get away from so he could win.
Karma is a bitch.
Sending him back out to start the 9th, I have no problem with. Deserved the chance to finish it. Once he walked the leadoff man…he should have been out. Leaving him in for one more batter there was the dumb part.
It’s a fitting way for the Royals to win, though. Yet another come-from-behind win, another blown save for the opposition.
