So ESPN is announcing that David Ortiz will retire tomorrow, his 40th birthday.
I believe that tomorrow Ortiz will announce that 2016 will be his last season. So one more year, time for a farewell tour.

Yea, I missed the 2016 part.
In the “awards for old dudes” category, we have the Managers of the Year awards. Joe Maddon in the NL, Jeff Banister in the AL. Wonder how this stacks up against getting a hit in your only MLB plate appearance?
I see no one has yet commented on the Cy Young awards, which went to Jake Arrieta and Dallas Keuchel last night. The AL side wasn’t much of a race, with Keuchel getting 22 first-place votes to David Price’s 8. Much closer in the NL, with 17 first-place votes for Arrieta and 10 for Zach Greinke (and 3 for Clayton Kershaw). As a Cubs fan I’m glad to see Jake win it, but I certainly don’t disagree with the folks that voted for Greinke, either. Might be a while before we see another year with that kind of candidate quality.

Or who knows, it could be next year - the quality of starting pitching is ridiculous in recent seasons. Good for Arrieta on winning as he was very deserved!
And the last big awards from the 2015 season came out tonight, with Bryce Harper the unanimous NL MVP, and Josh Donaldson almost as dominant in the AL MVP voting (23-7 over Trout). Looks like the right choices to me; the numbers were certainly there for both. I do admit to minor surprise that we didn’t see at least one voter pull the old “Harper’s team sucked so I’m voting for someone else” thing.
