MLB 2018 - Hope for a 7-game WS so they'll play on Halloween

The Home Run Derby is silly entertainment, but it’s good silly entertainment. Watched it tonight via the stream on MLB.com. Followed the script with Harper putting it away in the end, but it was fun all the way through with most of the rounds being close. As a Cubs fan I’d have been happy to see Schwarber win, but I can’t be unhappy seeing the father/son Harper duo winning in DC.

Mike Matheny never had a losing season…even this year. Should have been given a chance for a few more years. Not that bad a manager, Bud Norris thinks hes great. Molina was also his protege. And he blocked the plate pretty well. Why u all hate this handsome man? Fowler should have learned to play by the rules. etc.

Remember when we thought Dan Uggla had the worst ASG ever? Good grief. He was a teenager for most of these, but that’s about as bad as it gets. What an asshole.

How does someone famous not know to go cleanse their social networking history? Does this dude have an agent?

That’s what I wonder. And…who the hell is in the Brewer PR department? That’s now become standard stuff for most pro sports teams. I know the Cardinals have folks who basically police old social media and watch current social media stuff after the Carlos Martinez really likes to “Like” nasty porn images fiasco three years ago.

Thought this about summed up the overall situation:

Better question re: Mike Trout. Does it really matter anyway?

If you are a baseball fan and you don’t think Trout is one of the best in the game then you aren’t much of a baseball fan. If you are not a baseball fan then why should anyone care.

And the media has as much “blame” as anyone for putting certain players out there. Trout is 500% better than Bryce Harper but I would bet more time is wasted covering Harper.

Hyperbolize much?

Anyway, regardless of relative ability, Harper plays for a team that’s been competitive for quite a few years now. The Nats are in the hunt most every year. You really can’t say the same for the Angels.

Wow, those tweets were quite something. Fortunately, MLB is on the case.

Willie Mays played in one World Series, (maybe 2, with the Mets maybe) and the Giants were not good in most years, but he was recognized as one of the greats. Same with Aaron.

Harper has been lionized since his rookie year. Freakin East Coast Bias. :)

Well, jeez, Trout’s career isn’t over yet. I have no doubt he’ll be recognized as one of the greats after he retires. First ballot Hall of Famer seems very likely.

But at the moment, he plays on the second LA team that happens to usually suck. And also he seems barely willing to do interviews, never mind doing the other stuff required to make you a media darling. I’m sure once he gets traded to the Yankees, they’ll give him some media training.

Anyone who gets excited about rain and snow is a superstar in my book.

Mays played in three World Series: '51 and '54 (“greatest catch of all time”) with the New York Giants and '62 with the SF Giants. The Giants didn’t move west until after the '57 season, so I guess you could say at least a large portion of Mays being idolized was East Coast bias. In that vein, I remember Aaron as always being regarded as very good, but he wasn’t talked about as an all-time great until he started to approach Ruth’s HR record.

I forgot the 51 and 62 series. Didn’t he play in a series his final year with the Mets? I have this vision of him falling down while leaving the batters box? Maybe that was a playoff game?

As an aside, ever since interleague play I have had no interest in the All-Star game. I remember when you watched the All Star game to see the players you never saw on TV.

Yep, make it four World Series for Mays. He appeared in 2 games in the '73 series with the Mets, had 7 AB’s and had 2 hits (both singles) and scored a run.

RE: Mike Trout.

I’m not sure this really has the effect the Angels think it will, but at least they’re trying.
