MLB 2018 - Hope for a 7-game WS so they'll play on Halloween

He wants to play either at home in SoCal, or in a big 4 media market. Which makes his rejection of San Francisco a little curious, but whatever.

Oh, and Stanton’s contract has an opt-out for 2020…

Here we go. Luxury tax be damned.

Deal’s done. No details yet, but Giancarlo Stanton is a Yankee.

Oh boy, I know everyone has been anxiously waiting for the poor Yankees to get that big name slugger again.

Reports are that Yanks will take all but 10% of Stanton’s $300M contract, and will send Starlin Castro and two prospects.

This is how the Yankees rebuild.

Speaking of 10% of 300M…

Welp. At least it’s not the Dodgers.

It seems like they are only on the hook for the 30 million if he doesn’t opt out. That lowers the AAV calculation for the calculation but isn’t anywhere near lowering their 2018 cap number by 30 million.

They use the AAV to keep teams from playing games with the yearly values to be able to sneak under for one year (penalty escalates over multiple years but only need one year to reset it)

Being a Marlin fan has to suck.

So that’s 94 of Miami’s 196 home runs last year that have been traded away in the past week.

How crappy is this franchise? Here’s where Marlins Man was on the last day of the season - the same day Stanton was going for HR #60.

Marlins deal Stanton, Ozuna and Gordon and don’t get a Baseball America top 100 prospect coming back in any of the deals.

The guys the Cardinals gave up have some ceiling. A little. Alcantara might be a #2 or even higher, if he ever learns to command his pitches. Mags Sierra is a tremendous fielder with tons of speed, but have to worry that he’ll ever be able to even hit hard line drives at the MLB level. The other two guys are…eh. Gallen might be interesting in a few seasons, I suppose.

At any rate, Cardinals got their impact bat without having to move any of their big prospects. Still have plenty of chips for Longoria/Colome or Machado.

Oh, also, it appears the Cardinals are going to do one of their players a real solid.

Stephen Piscotty’s mother was diagnosed with ALS before the start of last season. It obviously weighed on his mind all year, and he was pretty terrible. Looks like they’re going to try to deal him to Oakland or San Francisco for a couple of prospects so he’ll be nearer to his home in the Bay Area.

And if that sets his mind a bit more at ease, he’ll be a hell of a pickup for whomever gets him.

It’s not the trades so much as the pretty much recognized fact that the Marlins are getting nothings in return.

Although to Marlins fans I am sure it is the trades. :)

Yeah, I have no idea why they approved this ownership group if they were just going to gut the franchise.

Poor Christian Yelich. Guy’s under team control for like another 3 or 4 years, and they’re going to keep him around.

Kinsler to the Angels.

Not sure what’s left in the tank there.

Piscotty traded to the A’s for two minor leaguers.

Loved Stephen Piscotty as a Cardinal, but it was clear that his head was an absolute mess, and understandably so. Really happy for him that he gets to go back home and be close to family. Kudos to the Cardinals; after acquiring Ozuna they needed to trade Piscotty, but they specifically sought a deal with either the Giants or Athletics to get him near his home.

Sounds like the White Sox may be getting close to getting Machado.

Guess their plan is: sign him long term if they can…and if they can’t, deal him at the deadline for prospects.

good prospects
