Sorry. I’m still having a hard time with people not getting that $30 up front for a game that got some really negative press on launch may fall on the risky side of the cost analysis for some people. You guys act like a person can’t get 3-5 really solid games on Steam for that amount of money or that you couldn’t play LotRO for hours and hours and hours before you needed to spend $30.
The argument is moot for me, thanks to Razgon giving me a client key, but if it hadn’t been for him I wouldn’t even bother trying the game at $30 for the client.
Sure, but those games didn’t come out in June. (Or they did and they’re indie games with a fraction of the budget and content. Not that those are necessarily the arbiters of value, but they certainly impact pricing.)
Yeah, it’s there now. I’m not sure if I was mistaken but when I was chatting with a live Funcom rep he didn’t see it either on my account.
Anyway, problem solved, gripe rescinded.
Of course there really wasn’t anything I wanted to spend the points on. I don’t really go for the cosmetic stuff. I’ll probably spend it on an AP boost but I want to do that when I know I’ll have a couple of days to put a lot of time into the game.
The free gift is some goofy Mayan hat.
I will probably cancel anyway because I don’t really see a need for monthly points. I’ll just resub when I want a bunch of points or simply buy some. I haven’t played through the existing content yet so I have no need of new content. At the rate I’m going it will be a few months before I get through all the content.
One thing weird about this game is that by not having classes there doesn’t seem to be any reason to make an alt. I guess you spec differently but I’m not seeing the appeal of playing through the same content just to spec differently.
Well, I was thinking about alting to see the story from the other two factions… or maybe they all go through the same stories?
Haven’t really played it much lately so I might as well just cancel.

I have an alt now, that is the one I play, but thats because I don’t remember a single thing about my main character, who is in egypt…
I get it. I was wary at launch too and held off for a couple of months. The negative press was due mostly to bugs, however, which have since been addressed.
That said it’s still an MMO that makes you grind a bit at times and many of the quests are humdrum stuff. The investigation quests, the setting, the writing, and the voice acting are all topnotch though and really give Secret World a different feel.
Anyway, going B2P is perfect for this game. It’s a game that plays better at a relaxed pace.
I am by no means deep into the game, but the first faction mission is a palette swap for each of the three factions. As far as I can tell the only -real- differences are mission turn-in text and deck outfits. (And the intro.)
Similarly, it’s actually easier to move into alternate specs on the same character than it is to roll separate characters for separate specs, because you can repeat everything other than investigations and exp rewards go up dramatically the further into the game you get.

Where did you find it for $20? Was it from a reputable source? The cheapest I can find is $24 from some shady seller on amazon.
Not quite. Different things happen in the faction mission location for each of the fiction and some factions will have a slightly harder time of that one than others. At least if I remember correctly.
The faction missions are similar, but not identical.

It was basically the same mission. They would have to be a -lot- more distinct later on (and more frequent) to be worth running an alt, imho.

I know, but still for $7.50 you got the free month. At least I think that version of the game did. It was a steal. I actually thought about rebuying it at that price just for the free month. I would have just started a different character in a different faction.

BTW, once I finish the current gaming thing I’m doing, I’m definitely up for jumping back in to TSW for a bit.
