It’s a looooong download. I should be in-game 9pm or so.

I just picked this up in the Amazon sale for myself and my girl.
We had exactly the same problem and we had to create new accounts to bypass the meaningless error.
Like others mentioned I now have 6 or so different funcom accounts for all the different games.
What a clusterfuck - why is something simple like account management such a clumsy mess?

Can one of you guys do me a favour and just check what the size of the game is on disk?
I have a feeling my install is corrupt somewhat.
My installation clocks in at 36.1GB which is fricking HUGE.

EDIT:
Why isn’t vsync available as an in-game option as it is in every other game ever made, ever.

Sheesh, mine’s 36 gigs as well. Guild Wars 2 is half that, for cryin’ out loud.

edit: Yup…it’s THAT big.

Thanks mate :)
God damn… it’s a beast of an installation.

Does anyone have any ideas how to enable vsync on this baby?
Even forcing it using the nvidia control panel has not worked.
It’s running at 1000 fps and causing my system to heat up dramatically.

EDIT: ah, forcing vsync on with Nvidia control panel only works if the game is set to fullscreen - not borderless window.
EDIT2: ugh, my character feels really ‘floaty’ like he’s not making any contact with the ground.

TSW has an enormous amount of voice and cutscene content. It’s like SWTOR in that regard, except that the quality is generally higher.

Just got home to find a gift copy of this in my Steam account. w00t!

Now for the multi-hour download…

And it is definitely multi-hour. I started at about 9am; it’s 3pm now and I’m somewhere around 60-65% of the way. Funcom’s download speed fluctuates a lot.

I would imagine the servers are getting hit pretty hard today by new adopters.

No doubt. I’m not in any particular hurry, just saying.

I wonder how long it will take me to relearn everything.

First time back logged in right on top of a mob - it didn’t go so well.

You weren’t kidding about those fluctuations. It’s flipping between 120KB/sec and 5.1MB/sec for me. Crazy. You’d think they’d use a CDN for this, and no matter how popular F2P TSW is, it’s not gonna overwhelm akamai.

So, I’m in, but shockingly there’s no-one in #qt3! Unless I’m doing it wrong…do you have to be in the same faction to see each other? I’m Illuminati.

Nope. Chat is completely factionless.

If you bought this today, make sure to check the store’s “claimed items”. There’s an XP accelerator in there, plus a pet, some costume items and starter weapons.

After an hour or so in my impressions are that the combat, controls, movement, and combat are terrible and the graphics are mediocre at best and look like a 2004 xbox1 game. It’s no guild wars 2, that’s for goddamn sure. The voice acting and “world feel” are just terrific, though. I’m sticking with it.

Just discovered I had a huge script to copy the TSW files to ramdisk before launching it… time to try playing it again :)

Stusser: The world and story is great, as well as the writing. In all the years of playing MMOs (Starting with Sierras “The Realm” and M59 and some MUDs before that) I never really bothered about the story, outside of ULTIMA ONLINE. (I am saving up all the quests in LOTRO so I can read the ‘completed quests’ 'journal once I’m done… :) )

It says “0” points on my account… would’ve thought those of us who subbed since launch would get a little something-something?

2004 xbox 1 game?

You can find spots that look great, sure. But when you actually play the game you notice a lot of sharp lines and muddy textures. It’s not terrible, but it’s no GW2 either.

They don’t seem to have fixed any of the problems from the beta. Animations are still ugly and clunky, combat is dull as dishwater (1,1,1,1,2,1,1,1,1,2,etc,etc,adnauseum), there are still graphical and UI bugs everywhere, performance is sluggish at best.

Oh well. For $15 for the whole game to date I suppose it was worth it. I’ll keep plugging, but I hope it gets better.
