According to the new Game Director’s letter, temporary free access will be offered (only) to “all players who have ever played a Funcom title”. I suspect this means they’re sending out invites to all current and previous subscribers to Funcom MMOs.

So today and tomorrow are double AP days. The next two days I believe are double xp days, and then the last days of the anniversary are double SP. The double AP is niiiiiiiiice.
I’ve done two of the Guardians kills. They get a bit laggy–you have to step down your graphics a bit beforehand. They’re fun though.

One of the easiest way to jump into the boss fights is to join the anniversity chat channel (type /chat join anniversity), yes they can’t spell. It’s very active with constant updates of which boss has spawned where on other dimensions. All you have to do is click on one of the announcer’s names and friend them. Get up the friends list (shift-F) and then right click on their name and select ‘meet up’. It will port you straight to the nearest waypoint on their dimension, ready to join the action. The boss missions refresh every two hours and give you 20 AP plus a purple goody bag as a reward. So far I’ve picked up a pet, several blue signets and about 8 black bullion. Sometimes you won’t get the mission- it kicks in about three seconds before the boss dies, at one of them I had respawned and was on my way when he died and it was definitely no dice. There is a piece of lore very close to each boss area.
I can’t log into the client. Is this a common problem? I’m able to log into the web site, so I know my username/pw is correct. But the client says Authentication Failure. And it says it so fast I’m dubious it’s actually checking anything…
Wasn’t there a hotfix scheduled for right now (because the event quest doesn’t always pop up, or the achievements go missing?) In that case,it makes perfect sense for the authentication servers to be down.
I read about a hotfix in the news section of the TSW client yesterday, but I’m not seeing anything announced on TSW forums. So not sure.
So far I’ve just been playing tsw as a solo game (I’ve grouped with people on missions maybe twice.) Also, I have zero prior MMO experience. What kind of gear do I need before joining in the boss fights? I have mostly green Q10 talismans, and my weapons are medicore Q10 blues I got off the auction house. I’ve also never done a dungeon yet, though I’d like to, if just to see the sights.
For these boss fights, it doesn’t matter what you have. The boss fights are a group of 50-200 players hacking away at a huge target with 15 million HP. Just get in there, hit him for at least 1 hp, and you’ve contributed.
Now is a good time to enter Polaris. Especially right after the Kingsmouth guardian goes down, there are tons of people looking for company to get in there.
Thanks! For the dungeons, I guess I’m a bit overleveled/overgeared for regular Polaris now, but should I do the regular ones before I do the elite? Also, am I expected to research and fully know all the different bosses’ attacks before going in? I read that as a tank, I’m supposed to impair certain attacks, etc. But that seems like reading spoilers prior to playing the game.
You could always equip some lower level weapons and talismans or even unequip a few to give yourself more of a challenge for Polaris normal, and it’ll get you used to tanking in TSW too…and as red guy mentions, just tag the guardians and join in the fun, you dont even need to be grouped for them.
Got the black eye patch from the Savage Coast guardian this morning, took a while as someone managed to take him outside his tether zone and his health reset.

Apparently there’s a cabal called 7th Legion who are regularly doing this shit. There’s not much you can do unless someone can develop greater threat as soon as they notice what is happening.

Ok, even with my fairly n00bish character (she’s only just barely halfway through Savage Coast stuff, and in QL5 gear) I was able to do all 5 of the Guardians today who are do-able. Fusang has been a mess all day, so here’s hoping a hotfix overnight fixes that…and then I guess they add two more for Transylvania.
question: do you get anything cool for having done all 8? I’m getting nice signets and bullion rewards as it is, but was just wondering if you get anything for the set.
Funcom announced today that they’re extending the Guardians of Gaia bosses for a full week, which is great news. The AP/XP/SP boost stuff still ends after Sunday, but the other stuff goes on, which is nice.
EDIT: quick question for folks who know this stuff better than I–is it worth harvesting black bullion from these boss fights?
Black bullion used to be the way to get pretty great nightmare dungeon stuff, right? Still worth going after?
You need 20 bullion to buy a lvl 10 weapon (I think). To upgrade it a step you’ll need 40 bullion. I think it’s quicker to just run a dungeon.
The event looks like great fun, but my client crashes whenever I get near one of the spawned guardians. Even dialing down to DX9 and no effects and low resolution, and the thing still crashes with an out of memory error.
