Yeah, I’m pretty handy at the game myself and my K/D is at 1,41 and hasn’t moved in months :) Nanners is great because he is genuinely funny and doesn’t take things very seriously. If you pay attention to his movement patterns you can learn a lot. He always walks around corners, never sprints for long distances, makes great use of cover and is unpredictable. If you can manage that then you do not need to be an over-caffeinated 16-year old to do well at this game.

I really wish Infinity Ward would stop pretending like “IW.net” is some major system they put in place with the PC version. Isn’t “IW.net” just a light wrapper around Steamworks, which is the service that actually handles all the matchmaking, one-click joining, friends lists, etc.?
I got my first nuke last night. I just wanted to share that with everyone.
Nothing compares to your first time.
The “Stimulus Package” map pack is out but it (and its accompanying patch) have utterly broken MW2. I tried to sneak in a game this afternoon but spent 20 minutes staring at the matchmaking screen instead. Twitter is in a state of apoplexy. I haven’t looked at GAF.
According to Bowling and Maj. Nelson it’s MS’s fault, not IW’s. Either way, it’s a borked launch - worst since BFBC2’s :)
Yeah, it’s apparently a huge disaster so far. Hopefully its fixed tonight, cause i am really looking forward to the new maps. I am even thinking about finally prestiging my main thanks to double xp and getting my secondary killwhore account up to 70. Really hoping they fix this stuff.
Does one need to buy the new maps for the double XP? I’d like to make another stab at making rank 100 this weekend, but can’t buy the maps right now.
What is rank 100? But regardless, yes you do. The double xp is limited SOLELY to the Stimulus package playlists, probably so that people are encouraged to see the new maps. I think this is one of the best things IW has done in this whole cluster (I mean since launch of the game)-a playlist just for the new maps is perfect, so I don’t have to wade through 13 others to get to them.
I think they said they might open up double xp to all playlists this weekend, but who knows at this rate.

Personally, I would rather have the new maps mixed in so I can choose the game type I want rather then the stimulus playlist.
They pretty much have to integrate the new maps with the old playlists at some point relatively soon though; didn’t both COD4 and W@W integrate them almost immediately?

Not getting the map pack. I played MW1 a ton (hit gold cross 55) and mostly enjoyed it the entire way. This game has too many broken design decisions that have rendered it a lot less fun. The biggest problem is they ruined domination, everyone plays it like deathmatch looking to rack up insane kill streaks rather than capping points. We used to run into a team every once in a while that did this in MW1 but in MW2 it is odd to find another team playing properly. We played TDM quite a bit this year instead of domination but it just isn’t as fun and our guys who weren’t the best K/D weren’t enjoying it as much because they couldn’t contribute as much.

Well i bought the map pack last night and played for a few hours. So far I’m not too impressed with the 3 new maps. Storm and Salvage are alright, but Bailout is not very good at all. Can’t see any of these becoming favorites.
I played most of the night on the old playlists because the group I had didn’t want to buy the map packs (BASTARDS)-though today the double XP and map packs are being integrated into all playlists, which is YAY!
Anyways, I played some of the maps on my own, and only saw four of the 5.
The Call of Duty 4 maps should have been left in Call of Duty 4. They look fine, but Crash is too damned small and cramped (its going to be pro pipe heaven), Overgrown was, and remains, a shitty map that I really do not like, and they are not designed like the MW2 maps. Do not want.
I went from not liking salvage in S&D to loving it in CTF. It is going to be another pro pipe heavy map, but I really like it. In contrast to Rust or Shipment, it’s a small map that actually has tactical options and some character.
I like Storm, but only played it once and am not educated on it enough to make a final judgment.
I did not get to see Bailout. I will probably play a mix of regular playlists and the stimulus only tonight so I can get a real good feel for the maps.
I really enjoyed the Mosh Pit on the new maps, different game types shows the advantages of each map. Bailout was the least favourite map(I guess due to it being a giant corridor) but it really shined during Headquarters. And it showed me that playing different game types can be really fun as well(though I hate worrying about my KD ratio argh!)
The interesting part about Salvage is the little 2 level house beside the doghouse; it’s rare in that it has windows on all sides and more entry points than usual. Usually a spot like this will not have a view in all directions so now this gives a little bit of a different risk vs reward play.
Crash is awful; the upper spawn point only really has 2 exits and one of them is a long corridor that is ripe for sniper target practice.
I think it would be splendid if all the COD maps you have purchased to your hard drive would be compatible in all current and future COD games, a la the Rock Band line of video games and its respective DLC.
Adree: thanks for the maps again.
I’m pretty meh on the new maps so far (and they are all new to me as I didn’t play COD4 multiplayer).
Hopefully that’ll change as my favorite/least favorite maps from the original list has changed quite a few times as I’ve played the game more.

Can’t agree with you there. There is three separate corridors out from the upper spawn (Left through the garage, straight down to the helicopter or down the sniper corridor as you put it). None of which are really difficult to attack (well ok the middle can be a bitch if a good team camps the 3 story building). The sniper corridor works both ways…
It’s an uneven map, just look:
from the lower spawn, the sniper corridor has a huge advantage because you can take cover behind that car, the concrete barriers and prone in grassy knoll. You can make it to the light shoppe with no trouble. Going the other way you have to step around that corner from an upper elevation for the world to see. Maybe you can make it to the little barrels with a smoke grenade but you’re already at a disadvantage, no matter how you slice it.
The middle route is a kill zone; you’ll die there from the 3 story, from the pillars, from across from the pillars or from the light shoppe. The helicopter provides very poor cover even if you do make it there; you can see thru it easily and shoot thru it even easier. The north and middle routes are very close to each other anyway. The north is the most viable but that’s not saying too much. The blue building is not a good place to be either.
I remember a lot of frustration in COD4 with this map. Tonight I was playing for a few hrs in stimulus and only once out of 6 or so matches did the upper spawn point team win.
trying out MW2 after weeks of playing BC2 I realize that in MW2 the players move around like they are freaked out on speed, even on non-hacked servers. I hadn’t realized just how ‘arcady’ the game was before.

Ugh. If I jump into a game and there’s a guy zipping around at Mach 2, stabbing people, I quit and find another game. I love the levelling system in MW2 and the near constant ding! feeds my ladder climbing tendency, but there are a few things about the game that drive me batty.
I’m going to pick up BC2 today (PS3) and see how that feels.
