Like I said upthread, when I tried it out last Friday, it wasn’t as big a problem as I thought it would be. Honestly, it was a tad frustrating at times that so many people were using the nube toob build, but despite that I still had a positive K/D ratio in nearly every game even without using that class (yes, I have one too).
So it’s only frustrating if you let it frustrate you. It’s not as if you can’t get a positive K/D ratio or not do well in the game by using other classes. It’s just that most people have settled on not doing that. And that’s okay. They’re just being lazy. So what? My RPD-using class is still my favorite. I finally unlocked the last Camo for that gun. I love the RPD.

True Rock8man. For every class there is a counter. Just don’t let it get to you if you are sniped of tubed a few times in a row. I have 5 specific classes that i use
1: Quiet rifleman (ACR w/silencer)
2: Asshole (see above)
3: Quick submachinegun runner (UMP w/marathon+lightweight)
4: Sniper (Intervention w/OMA)
5: Heavy Weapons Guy (AUG / stinger)
I normally switch between classes 2 and 4 as the need arises, but i use most classes during an evenings play. It’s all down to the flow of the game.
I’m pretty done for a while. I don’t have the time or energy anymore to get into all the things wrong with MW2, but I am done for a while. I think I actually convinced a friend to get World at War and play it with me again, as I still maintain that MP40 spam aside it is the most balanced, polished COD online.
Regardless, MW2 is just broken, buggy, and the community has simply abused and exploited everything to such an extent that it’s not fun.
Long break commences today. Good luck you guys.
I did the free weekend and did not end up buying it. While you get a lot of theoretically cool stuff to play with, I didn’t find actually using it all that satisfying. Also, the matchmaking is lame; I live in a major US population center and encountered significant packet loss in most of my games.
I would like to get it someday for the things that they cleverly chose not to include in the free weekend, but definitely at sub-$50 price point or as a gift.
My “default” class is
M16-Red Dot, AA-12-Extended Mags
Scavenger/Stopping Power/Ninja
Semtex/Flash Bangs
Painkiller

I was a big fan of the ACR at first, but I’ve grown to like the M16 and even the FAMAS more as the 3 burst shots force me to be more careful and not spray & pray so much.
Along with posting your best loadout, let’s also post our K/D ratio to see how well it’s working. Who will go first?
How about you since you asked?

Well I finally hit 70 this week on the 360. I just bought the PC version at fry’s so I could play with a friend who is exclusively a PC gamer. I tried the free weekend and I forgot how much I miss keyboard/mouse.

Yes, I finally gave up my heartbeat sensor addiction and you know what…I’m doing ok.
My K/D is 1.13 right now. Not super high but positive, at least.
It was much lower when I first started playing and ran through to level 70 for the first time playing super aggressively as if the game were Halo, and I started playing the game about 3 months in with people who had been playing since the beginning, so I was playing against dudes much higher than my rank (like playing 3rd+ prestige people regularly through my first level set). So I’ve been grinding it up out of the deep hole I put it in when I first started.
These days I usually go at least even on a bad game and 10:1 or higher on a really good game. Of the dudes I play with relatively regularly the highest k/d is 1.7, a couple below him are ~1.45, then I’m at 1.13 and the rest are below me (all the way down to our token horrible player who is like 0.54 or so).
My max killstreak is only 25 which puts me in the lower end of the people I play with because I still play fairly aggressively, though in a way that suits this game more.
All of this is on the Xbox 360, fwiw.

Killstreaks: Predator -> Harriers -> Pavelow
I’m level 50ish on my first prestige and my K:D is 0.95. I play very aggressively, bordering on reckless. Highest killstreak is 19.
Same for me 90% of the time. Sometimes I’ll run Chopper Gunner instead of Pavelow if I’m playing in an easy lobby, though. And I’m constantly thinking about ditching predator and just starting with Harriers so that I can get more epic killstreaks and also because Predators are so unreliable for getting kills for me. I’ve killed entire teams with a single predator in TDM, but often I’ll get 0 kills either because of some obstruction that isn’t obvious until it is too late to course correct, or because one of my teammates will kill the people my predator is going after before it gets there.
1 UAV - I think the UAV is such an underrated kill streak, it helps your entire team know where the enemy is.
2 Sentry - let’s you control a nice piece of real estate and will often get more kills than a predator. The downside is that you get it via care pkg and it can’t kill aircraft like predator can.
3 Emergency Airdrop - I just love fucking up a whole game where suddenly a specific part of the map will be the focal point. The random AC130 is nice too.
Scar grenade launcher, M1014 ext mags, smoke grenades, claymores.
Scavenger, Stopping Power, Ninja.
I think smoke grenades are underrated as well; they let you get to places that would otherwise be very difficult to get to. And with scavenger you can keep tossing them.
This is very true, UAVs are important, but this is Someone Else’s Job with the people I normally play with. There’s a couple of guys who run UAV and a couple of guys who run dedicated stinger classes (usually with OMA) to be designated aircraft killer.
I’ve never really used the NTube attachement before, but last night I decided to try it out. I went with SCAR+grenade launcher, Scavenger, Cold Blooded (only lvl29, so I don’t have danger close yet) and Ninja. Picked the magnum as secondary.
It was a fun change of pace actually. the tube is more fun/usefull when you can replenish your grenades for it. But it didn’t really affect my number of kills. And more then half of my kills was with bullets (really love the magnum up close).
Danger close increases the damage of the grenades, right? Maybe that would net me more kills. We’ll see in 4 levels…

Danger close increases damage by 40% so it’s quite an extra kick. It also affects all explosives based weapons so grenades/semtex/claymores and killstreaks like Harriers/choppers/bombers become MUCH more lethal.
With OMA Pro and Danger Close Pro i use the grenades as area denial weapons. There are aways chokepoints on the maps. Set up nearby. Launch two grenades, reload with OMA (only takes a few seconds with Pro) and repeat. This effectively denies the enemy access to that area of the map.
Ok. I definitely see how that build could cause major pain, especially in objective based gameplay (domination comes to mind…).It’s just that I only rarely see it in the games I play. I play mostly ground war and mercenary TDM, so maybe it’s more prevalent on other types?.
Also, I guess the blast shield would be the obvious counter to grenade spam?

Yeah, i play mostly ground war so it’s objective based most of the time. Blast shield help a lot, but you don’t see many using it. Still, two grenades normally does the trick. It’s also a good solution against the riot shield, just aim for the ground beside them or the wall behind them if they are backed up.
Noobs uses Scavenger with grenade launchers. Pros use One Man Army. >:D
I guess I’ll post my favored build:
Tar-21 + Silencer
Spas-12 + Grip
Claymore
Flashbang
Scavenger Pro
Cold Blooded Pro
Ninja Pro
I basically skulk around and kill people with the silencer. Sometimes I’ll camp a position for a little while and mine the area with claymores, get a few kills that way, then move just outside it and hide while people run in and shoot them in the back. I should learn the M-16 with this class as it’s way better for long distance, but I can’t adapt to the 3 round burst.
My K/D right now is 1.19, and my highest streak is 30 I believe.
Yeah, I’d recommend everyone who plays the game try all these builds, even if you don’t think they’ll be to your liking. You just never know. For example, in Bad Company 2, I can’t stand their Light Machine Guns, but in Modern Warfare 2, it’s my favorite weapon type. In most games, I don’t really like sniping. But in Modern Warfare 2, I recommend everyone play the sniper enough to unlock the thermal scope for one sniper rifle. Sniping with the thermal scope is a lot of fun, and makes for some great variety.
Similarly, I’d recommend trying the NTube builds w/scavenger and danger close. Yes, I get more kills with my RPD build, but the NTube is a fun one to do for variety. And I recommend everyone try the superfast scout build (Marathon + lightweight + commando). It might seem annoying to fight against them, but believe me, the guys at IW did an awesome job at making that build fun to use. Honestly, I wasn’t expecting it to be as fun as it turned out to be. There are other builds too that I’m forgetting, but this is one game where they really made sure that all these different types of builds are refreshing to use, and fun to use.

The Stimulus Package has been #1 on Steam’s sales charts since the day before it was released almost a week ago. It seems Activision made the right choice in charging for the pack. :)
