Yuck. I had a lot of problems with that a couple months ago when I finally finished up the base game. I never had those issues before, but it sounds like it became pretty common after a Steam update. I heard some people recommend turning off your friends list or something like that to avoid the disconnects. I was really hoping that would be something fixed in the Iceborne release.
I don’t know how this game can go from a Coral Pukei-Pukei, which is one of the easiest monsters ever, straight into a Barioth.

Barioth is quite manageable after you break is legs, but it’s true that he moves around way too much. Get used to it though, chasing ADHD monsters as they jump around is more or less how the game works.
Did I say something about it moving too much or not knowing how the game works? Just too much damage and nonstop attacks. I need to check my armor again and get some ice resistance.
This is so true. Barioth remains one of the hardest monsters (broken legs or no). Just the speed, lack of any real openings, and batshit enrage…plus! the ice breath attack and shoulder slam.
An all round fantastic monster, but a hell of a tough fight. Rocking an immunity mantle is a safe bet for nearly all of iceborne progression. Everything seems to have a status effect, and it saves you the hassle of having to constantly pop nullberries.
My first fight with a Barioth took me 40 minutes with a weapon I knew pretty well (Switch Axe). A couple days ago I managed to slay one in my first run with an Insect Glaive in ages in about 20. Once you know the patterns, it gets a lot easier.
That said, Barioth is a hard fight, especially if you lack mobility for whatever reason (cough Switch Axe cough).

God, that Witcher quest sucks soooo bad. I guess Geralt will be hanging out in my Research Base forever, because I’m never doing that again.
Hmm, I stacked max ice resistance but I still took a ton of physical damage. I have MR armor but maybe I need to farm Banbaro or something else to max it out.
Okay, it took a little more armor and then I had to remember that sometimes you just need to let these fools tire themselves out. After that it was a good, challenging fight.
So yeah, got my first 3-cart “quest failed” in Iceborne yesterday. Against the second-to-last monster in the story, Ruiner Nergigante. Got past it on my second try (using a longsword, BTW), but then got another quest failed on the final monster, since it has an apocalyptic attack that I don’t think you can survive without tons of defense or a farcaster.
Anyway, I’ll try it again tonight, I suppose. Both fights were pretty fun, though Ruiner Nergigante has a combo that’s a guaranteed faint if he hits you.
You don’t need either, if it’s the attack I think it is, then all you need to do is hug the sides of the canyon to avoid it.
A little deco help goes a long way in the second phase of that fight. Rock heatlhboost 3 and mirewalker 3 if you can.
Another thing to do when approaching the final fight, and endgame in general, is to keep checking back with the smithy to see if you can upgrade your armor more. Certain MR levels unlock further upgrade potential. The added defense is absolutely necessary.
Defense in this game is straight damage reduction, so more defense just means more overall health.
I was at the border, with health boost 3, and still died. I had a couple of faints from the previous fight with Ruiner Nergigante, so failed the quest, but I’ll try again with the full 3 faints (and maybe a 4th one in the form of Felyne Insurance or whatever its name is) and a farcaster or two. ;)
Ah damn, must’ve been bad luck! The attack has a path, so maybe you were just unfortunate enough to get caught in it.
Nah, a pool of sand next to me exploded, and then the AoE hit. It’s not the air beam, it’s the huge AoE thing that only happens in the third phase. I actually escaped the first one using a Farcaster. But I forgot to take another one and got hit by the second.
By huge AOE thing, I assume you mean when Shara goes under the sand, pops up at the other end of the canyon, and then launches a giant cyclone type thing? That attack is 100% avoidable if you hug the sides of the canyon. It has a path.
Late to the Monster Hunter party: Glavenus seems like a fun monster to fight.
Yeah, that one, but for some reason I was hit anyway. I’ll try again later.
Glavenus is probably my favorite monster from MH4GU on the switch, and they sure did do him justice in Iceborne.
Tigrex is great too, except all these brute wyverns that charge toward me end up going right by my Foresight Slash, heh.
