I got the bastard down to almost death (skull icon on map) and he killed me :-)

The amazing thing with Monster Hunter is after a few hours playing with your long sword, if you get back to the tutorial video (and you should, more than once!) you’ll think “oooooh”, as you are growing accustomed to its palette of attacks. It’s a really very rewarding process.

Got the Anjanath after a coupe more failures. I’d get to that last stage and he’d kill me. Finally got him though. Did the next story mission after that too.

After playing the Dark Souls series, it seems like the movement and combat in this could be a bit tighter. It’s definitely more finicky to get facing the right way for a swing in MHW.

The next region reminds me of something you might find in Morrowwind. I like how the regions are pretty different. I also liked fighting something that didn’t kick my butt 6 or so times!

Yeah, but be prepared to see that happen from time to time in the future… ;)

I think I met my favorite monster so far, the puffy flying fox thing. It was a shame he had to die.

You don’t have to kill any monster. You should be able to capture them.

Honestly, you should always aim for capture, not kill. It’s way more profitable in materials.

I don’t know how to capture. I think I got an optional mission to do a capture a while ago, but they never said how so I just never did it.

Except for the materials you can only get by slaying. Which, granted, are not many, but still.

Ah, the Paolumu! It’s a really cool monster, indeed.

I looked it up and don’t have it in my game :’(

It’s so fluffy!

I have a thing for the Yian Kutku. He is so volatile, even for a bird!

To capture a monster, you need to weaken the monster, then set up a trap, lead the beast into it, then drug it using a couple of tranquilizer bombs. It is a lot less complicated than it may sound, but the variety of gears needed takes space in your precious bag, and you need to craft (unless they let you buy them in world) the traps and the bombs.

Thanks!

Speaking as a bow main, I hate that thing. But not as much as I hate Kushy D.

My most hated monster starts with a K as well, and ends with “irin”. But it makes sense you’d hate KD as a bow main. When I play with a bow, my nemesis is another monster, the “sun” one. You know.

I don’t hate her (yet) but she being the first Elder Dragon introduced in my game was super anticlimactic.
“Uh, a white electrical kelbi”.

From memory it should tell you how once you’re actually in a capture mission. It’ll give you trap and tranqs in the blue chest.

OK, that makes it easier :-) Thanks

You can capture in any mission if you bring your own traps. It’s worth going to the wiki and looking up the crafting recipe for a shock trap and some tranq bombs. Weaken the monster until it’s limping, deploy the shock trap under it to stun it, then hit it in the face twice with tranq bombs to capture.

Monster Hunter is absolutely terrible at conveying important information to you about its mechanics, it’s one of those games where you pretty much have to go to outside resources sometimes.

Cheating! Just use the box to unlock recipes the way god intended. ;)

The monster will have an icon on the minimap that tells you when it’s capturable, I think it’s a skull?
