Publishers are largely to handle advertising, or provide other value-added services like translating.
Gone are the days were publishers were necessary to get retail space (and a certain publisher being scummy is what led to the rise of some DD services)
A new blog entry, about quests
https://www.taleworlds.com/en/Games/Bannerlord/Blog/17
As an example, when you go to a town to recruit soldiers, instead of simply receiving a number of local recruits, the town’s NPCs act as recruiting agents, or middle men, through whom you receive a supply of troops. The higher your relation with a specific NPC, the greater the number of soldiers they will make available to you.
This places inherent value on your relationship with a specific NPC, giving you a reason to complete quests for them, and enhance your capacity to recruit soldiers quickly, from a single location. Consider, also, the way this invests you in an NPC’s safety and well-being; when that NPC is at risk, so too is your supply of soldiers.
…
when a character in a town tasks you with clearing out some thugs, who are occupying a local alley, upon meeting the gang, you are presented with a counter offer: go back to the quest-giver, extort money out of them for questioning the gang’s >authority and keep the profits for yourself. You can even clear out the thugs, as requested but instead of handing control back to the townsfolk, install your own men in the alley and begin a new criminal operation.
Has this info about the upcoming PC Gamer article been discussed? Supposedly it mentions a probable 2017 release date of the game “in some form”: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qN9oLRP03oo
Probably early access in 2018 for about 3 years. I think I’ll play it when it comes out as long as it’s decent.
Ugh, 3 years of EA would suck.
Ha hah I think Tim is joking.
Aha, but I used the conditional “would suck,” so technically it’s OK! :-D
But seriously, I can’t wait for this thing.
The discussion about publishers… they still do/could provide a valuable service to studios. They have the money to fund an entire project and get the experienced personal to put it over the top (cut scenes, composers, sound, etc). The issue is the big publishers don’t seem to do that. They just crawled into their safe spot and curled into a ball. Stardock, Paradox, and ironically Sega are the only ones reaching out.
I certainly hope it is 2017’s best RPG and not 2018’s.
Taleworlds has said they created a new engine for Bannerlord.
But I have no sympathy for their excuses. I want my mounted blades two.
Playable at E3 this year:

E3 is just around the corner now and this year we’re back in force! For the first time at an event, we’ll be giving hands-on demonstrations of battles in Bannerlord to the world’s press. Look forward to our videos that will come out during E3 and hopefully the thoughts of those who try out the game!
I sure hope I don’t have to wait till I’m freaking retired (with luck in 6 years, barring another financial crisis) to play this.
But at least you’d have plenty of time then.
True, but by then there will be 50 MORE games I want to play! :-|
I saw a rumor/report that the hands-on is just a battle, so they could still be years away on the campaign or whatever else they’re working on.
Or, hey, almost done! Release next week!
At this rate it’ll come out the day before our sun goes nova.
