Warband was a relatively minor update to the original game that broke mods for the original. The modding community never really recovered to the state it was pre warband, even to this day.
Although it would be nice if they would spend some time on kingdom management and more interesting troops so i didn’t feel forced to use mods to play at all.
I’m not sure what you’re trying to say. Do you expect previous mods to magically work with the new game? It’s a new game-- I’m pretty sure that all previous mods will need to be re-created/adapted.
As to Warband, I personally prefer it to the original, hands down. Having to go back to the original with the pro-am mod Fire and Sword demonstrated that clearly to me.
Good looking update. Even if it was mostly just a graphical overhaul I’d probably buy it. Actually… part of me wishes that was all they were doing. I hope they don’t mess anything up!
Well, I don’t see why it would be. Warband is what it is: an expansion/expandalone. It’s the same game with multiplayer and a few new features in the campaign. This is called “Mount & Blade 2” no “Mount & Blade somethingsomething” and it’s having several years of development. I would expect a true sequel not an expansion here.
I like kingdom building and since neither base game did it, i turned to the mod scene.
My favorite by far, and what i felt was the best mod, was sword of damocles.
For a long time after warband came out there was development on the vanilla version of the mod. Eventually the makers started working on the warband version but it was WAY behind the functionality of the vanilla version.
Probably a couple years ago i stopped playing the game. At around this time SoD was nearing the quality of the version for the original. Just recently i loaded it up again and the version hasn’t changed, so sadly, it looks like this mod will never truly meet, much less exceed, the original version.
Warband basically caused the big mega mods of the time to start from scratch to redo what was done instead of actually improving and i don’t feel the improvements the warband offered were enough to make this trade off worth it.
If you played without mods, your opinion is probably very different.
The one real positive i saw in warband was stability. M&B had some pretty serious stability problems and warband seems to have made that situation a lot better. Still, i can reload around that.
The sword of Damocles guy, who is just one guy, had a ton of issues, like being homeless and such at one point. He is now working on the standalone Pirates warband game whose name eludes me, with the guys who did Fire & Sword.
Interesting. One thing that stood out for me on that page:
“The second most important element of the game. We’re still torn between which path to choose: making everything more simple and arcady or adding more options for strategy and control.”
I’m not looking for an age of sail game that is so hyper-realistic that you need to specify the position of every yardarm, but despite my love of all things Mount&Blade if they choose a model where a ship can make forward progress while directly pointed into the wind I’m going to have to pass on this one. I sail, and I demand at least the minimal realism of the ship behaving like it should when in irons. (though, honestly, I make an exception for AC IV: Black Flag since I considered ship battles just another arcade mini game in that title).
I’d like to see Napoleonic Wars’ Commander Battle mode implemented for Bannerlord. That game mode makes for some really cool and big battles and leaves the whole taking orders and standing in line stuff to bots who have more fun with that.
