But aren’t Chrome books extremely limited? I would never want something I could only use web apps with. I understand some people want that, but doesn’t that severely limit your market? I think MS is moving in the direction of a fully supported tablet, it’s just a slow process.

Yeah that’s what I was saying.

Obviously Microsoft isn’t going to release a web only device. I was talking about price points.
Aceris

Sure, but they have no desire to release a low functionality, low price device. So the strategy and thus pricing on the surface X is around high functionality, even if the reality is that of a low functionality device.

Yes but that strategy and pricing is stupid.

I’m putting this here because my wife is having problems with youtube and her Surface Pro Gen 7. She will watch youtube for a while and then it starts buffering and won’t play. I have to restart to fix it. I would like to know why it’s doing it in the first place.
Here’s what she’s using: Surface Pro Gen 7 w/ i5 processor, 8gig of ram and 128gig ssd. I have a 512 ssd and 4 terrabyte hdd attached via usb. Also have a 27" monitor connected using the usb c port. Windows 10 Home and her browser is chrome. The problem started before I added the 4t hdd.
Now the problem. She will be using youtube for 1 to 2 hours and when she starts a new video it starts to buffer and the only way to fix it is to restart the computer. This only started happening in the last month.
Any ideas why this is happening?
Is it stuttering or buffering? My first thought is it’s a potential overheat issue, as the i5 is passively cooled. But if it is buffering, it is not that.
Remove everything connected and see what happens.
Make sure you’re up to date on the drivers. It should automatically update over Windows Update for Surface.
Try a different browser.
If nothing else works, use Windows’s reset capability to restore the machine to new and see what happens. (Make sure to back up personal files).
I have that exact same model, and I haven’t noticed any issues. Do you have Complete?

I assume it’s buffering because I get a big rotating circular arrow. I’ve had the ssd attached since we bought it back in April. The problem just started within the last month. I disconnected the hdd because it was too slow for what I was using it for (holding large media files). I’m suspecting it’s due to some windows update, but I’ll try another browser. I do have WOT and uBlock origin as add on’s.

Microsoft is killing it, especially with the Surface.
Surface revenue has jumped by 37 percent this quarter to $1.5 billion. That’s a big increase for a quarter that hasn’t seen any new Surface devices introduced. Microsoft only just introduced a new Surface Laptop Go device and updated Surface Pro X earlier this month, but those will count to next quarter’s revenue.

Saw that earlier. Locked to AT&T. Bleh.,
According to Reddit it’s not difficult to get the unlock codes from Microsoft.
These are gonna be collectors’ items in 10 years, mark my words.
I’m vaguely tempted. Not to use it as an actual phone, but as a cool little toy. Apparently the dual-screen thing for xcloud is nifty.
Big Surface event tomorrow. Expected to appear:
A newly-designed Surface Pro 8. The first major redesign since the 3. Expect it to be more Surface Pro X.
A newly-designed Surface Book. No more detachable screen, but something different
Refresh Surface Pro X
Refresh Surface Go
Refresh Surface Duo

I wouldn’t buy anything other than a Macbook Air right now, unless you want to play videogames on your laptop or hate MacOS.
