It’s why they also put in the studio microphones. SP7 is a great video conferencing device.
And Windows 11 is a rush job at this point, but FWIW, I’ve read raves from Surface users that its tablet functionality is a lot better than Windows 10. Which makes sense, because Panos runs both Windows and Surface now. And it wouldn’t be hard to improve upon Windows 10’s tablet game, because it basically had none.

Panos is so earnest. His direct eye contact comforts me. I feel like he’s going to ask me to be his sex slave. I want to say yes. Allow me to service you, Panos. Free me. Make me yours.
I’m late, but Panos sounds like it’s halfway through. Did it start at 8 AM/11 AM?

I love power, speed, and beauty! I must buy a Surface Duo 2! (not)
Yes, it started at 11AM. Pretty much everything as leaked.
I do appreciate Microsoft’s focus on accessibility. That’s good work.
Hmm, that Surface Duo 2 looks pretty sexy, hehe.

Well obviously you’re getting one, Chris. You appreciate power, speed, and beauty.
I still don’t think dual screen phones are going to be a thing; by the time MS irons out their problems folding screens will be great too and they’re obviously superior.
Sounds like the new Book coming now.
Sadly, it hasn’t been a thing since my beautiful Kyocera Echo. A neat, but oh so flawed phone from 2011. I loved my Echo, despite its flaws. Also, I got it cheap because it was still 3G.
If this works as advertised, I will most definitely check it out. May be the first iPhone-like easy to use integration for a PC.

Windows has integrated beautifully with android phones for many years now. This seems like an improvement but I wouldn’t expect it to be limited to the surface duo.
This new studio/laptop hybrid seems stupid. It’s a thic laptop, a real chonker, no good as a portable device. They say it’s the most powerful Surface ever, but it only has a 4 core CPU. It only has a 14.whatever inch screen, so it isn’t suited for desktop use either. Even Panos’ dreamy eye contact can’t make me believe.
Haptic trackpad is neat, in a catching up to Apple of 2015 kind of way.
Yeah, 4 core CPU? Hmmm. I want to hear what the battery life is before I completely dismiss it.

That’s the problem with these hybrid devices, they always have serious compromises. Who wants a 4 core desktop with a 15" screen? Who wants a thick heavy laptop again with only 4 CPU cores and a mediocre GPU? Who are these products for? And you just know it’s going to start at like $2500.
Looks like they can stuff a lot of battery in that base.

Only product announced today that will sell in any volume is the Surface Pro 8, and that looks great. Rest of it is Microsoft playing around with form factors. I admire their ambition, and am glad they’re doing it, but I can’t help but chuckle at these weird products.
Did I miss it or did they not announce any prices?
Yo, Microsoft, your big Surface event has just ended. Why is your Surface home page still highlighting old devices?

Yep, amateurish. They didn’t announce prices, so I assume that’s why.
Also my guess is the new stupid Surface Studio Laptop replaces the Surface Book. Surface Book RIP. Another form factor experiment gone.
All about that thicc base.
Did they resurrect the old Courier POC in any meaningful way? Seems like they’ve been teasing around the edges of that for years.
I missed the Surface Pro 8 stuff, but the only thing that interested me so far was the Duo. I don’t think Apple has anything to fear from what I saw.

I don’t get the Surface Pro lineup either myself as it’s a shitty tablet and at best a good (but not great) laptop, but the market clearly disagrees with me. The SP8 is a major improvement; much smaller bezels, 120hz screen, slot for the stylus in the keyboard case, thunderbolt4.
Apple’s current laptops look archaic. They have the best internals by a large margin with the M1, but the screen bezels are enormous and their displays are all 60Hz. They need a major refresh.
Seriously, these launch alongside W11 in like two weeks, and there’s no ordering or pricing info available? Jesus christ.
