Because Johnny Winter and Muddy Waters have got more soul in their little fingers than all of King Crimson, Genesis, and Emerson, Lake, and Rimsky-Korsokoff have combined.
Fela’s obviously the king, but it seems like anytime I hear/read someone hyping up a high life/afrobeat artist from the ‘70s they invariably own.

I do love Levin’s work. One of the most memorable concerts I went to was the infamous Liquid Tension Experiment show in Chicago where keyboardist Jordan Rudess’ rig died about 40 minutes into the show, and they did an impromptu jam session where they rotated instruments.
Levin on his stick is one of the most impressive bassists out there.
Don’t leave out Tony Allen…
