I’d be all for it; a toned down version would be wonderful. But it’s the most politically toxic electoral recipe I can imagine for the GOP, at least in the short-term.
- You basically tell the cultural voters to go to hell.
- I can’t imagine how you’re going to get the libertarians to vote for this.
- Southerners either, for that matter. They hated the GOP of Lincoln for more than their slavery policy.
Maybe in 20 years you’d carve off enough of the coasts to put together a majority (with the midwest going back to the Democrats, and the South as a battleground?), but boy would you ever be talking about a Democrats-in-68-to-92 style drought for the presidiency.
