12 Team playoff in a couple of years
Seems way too high to me. But how else are you going to get Bama in when their 3rd in their division?
The fact that the regular season mattered was a great and unique thing about college ball. Now…not so much.
12 is simply way too much. Eight was a much more reasonable number. Each conference champ from the P5, a G5, and a couple of wild cards. 12? That’s a TV exec saying “We need Bama and Ohio State every year.”
Hell, even with 8 we’d still get Bama and Ohio State this year. 12 is overkill.
The specifics of it seem to be about as good as I could have hoped if you’re gonna cram 12 teams in. Top 6 ranked conf champs are in (B12 and especially Pac12 and AAC are happy I’m sure) and top 4 ranked get byes. Then next top 6 ranked get in. Could have been worse, but I’m sure it will draw eyes/money. Not a huge watcher anymore, but it is what it is.

The Rose Bowl blinked. Not surprising, they would have left a lot of money on the table and been left out in the cold if they didn’t.
I’ve been a fan of 8 for a while. 12 could be ok, but they got the mix wrong. If you’re expanding that large give every conference an autobid with two wild cards. Are the MAC or Sun Belt ever going to give you a national champion? Probably not, but they would at least have the opportunity.
And I get it. The mix wasn’t “wrong” if the goal is to keep all the money with the P5 conferences. Which of course is the goal.
I would argue with 12 teams an undefeated MAC or Sun Belt team is probably getting into the playoffs. With that said, it would be nice if it was ammended so the next top 6 ranked to get in must include at least one G5 team.

I’ll take not leaving undefeated teams out of the playoffs over that. Especially with top 4 byes, the regular season still matters.
At least the best one will get the cinderella shot. A year with two undefeated G5 teams could conceivably have the second team get that 12th spot, but I wouldn’t hold my breath. As a fan of a MAC team(Western Michigan) I’m glad the playoffs are now actually a possibility rather than being permanently shut out from a championship no matter what. Hell, we’d have been that playoff spot 6 years ago. And already our AD used the playoff expansion and needing to be prepared to compete for that spot as a big reasoning behind the semi-surprising firing of our coach after one losing season.
Really sounds like it’s Hartline for Cincy.
Nebraska hired Matt Rhule as the head coach last week, disapponting some local fans that thought Mickey Joseph was the right pick. Then this news breaks:
Yeah, well played Nebraska AD. Well played.

Probably born of frustration from not getting to keep the Husker job. 😝
USC looked like they were going to blow the doors off of Utah and somehow it’s 17-17 at half

The Trojans coach should have played field position. But the Utes offensive line has dominated.
Utah is going to cost their conference a nice payday, not that I blame them, but it is a weakness in the 4 team playoff system.
Looks like Utah will get a rematch with Ohio State.
USC just got spared of a worst beatdown at the hands of Georgia.

USC should’ve pulled their injured QB at the beginning of the final drive. There was no reason for him to be out there to get pasted a few more times.
That should set the top 4. The question left is who wins tomorrow and what order UGA, UM, and TCU end up in ahead of Ohio State.
Looking like Primetime going to Colorado
Gonna be fun in Boulder again

Well, it looks like I’ve just become a TCU fan. With USC’s face plant, if TCU loses it opens the door for Bama. Do not want! So go TCU!

I’ve seen projections that TCU still gets in over Alabama with a loss. But this is making me nervous.
I will laugh my ass off if USC and TCU let Ohio State and Bama back into the CFP.

There’s no good reason for 2-loss Alabama to get in over a 1-loss team whose only loss is in their championship game. Though I’m sure they’d try and justify it… but unless TCU gets blown out there’s no real argument. And that isn’t happening.

I would be shocked if TCU loses and still gets in. I am not saying Alabama deserves the spot I am just saying TCU won’t get in unless they win.
