Wasn’t the Kessler interview the final part of a week long series on C’ville 2017? I don’t know how you’d tell that story w/o including the organizer. I listened to the interview going to work that morning & thought he sounded like an idiot without any help from Noel. There were a couple points where she needed to be more forceful, but hearing their media critic this morning I believe they edited for time/content some of the points she was most forceful.

This pretty much sums it up. It was a visceral reaction to NPR’s condescending, obtuse, middle finger answer to valid criticism for their poor decisions. They’re not alone in doing this, of course, and this is certainly not the worst example of bothsidesism, hyperdefensiveness and doubling down that we’ve seen. (NYT probably wins that prize.)

But my irritation at the journosplaining, if you’ll pardon the word, and my moral objections are secondary to the more pragmatic and practical concerns that HumanTon summed up so well. NPR should not be providing a platform to Nazis and white supremacists. I can’t say, sadly, that I was shocked when they did so, but I am very disappointed that they are doubling down in this way after being given a chance to make things right again.

Report how horrible they are and what they did. Then leave it. Don’t interview them - period. The media frenzy is what they want. Same for all the stupid news shows including something like “the View”. Have normal people, and know that mainstream, decency, and centrism is current day Democrats. If hard right Republicans don’t like it, tough. They’ve had their Fox Fake News for years. they can stay with it.

This is the sort of thing that can only happen with a Trump; either because he wants it to happen because he’s a sympathizer, or because he’s an incompetent who has surrounded himself with incompetents so that there is no one able to avoid it.

This is a thing that happened today.

It’s not especially important, given everything that’s going on, but I am putting here for posterity. This way we’ll have an answer years from now, when we look back and ask, “Wait - did that actually occur? Or was it just something I dreamed that time I ate the expired shrimp and then had ice cream?”
