I get the feeling that the kid up front doing the white power “OK” symbol and laughing his ass off is not going to have an empathetic epiphany when he hits 21.
And the parents and officials might fall all over themselves excusing the behavior which means even if they take publicly, privately they get pats on their backs reinforcing their vile beliefs.
Reading the replies to that tweet, I’m less inclined to believe this was edgy humor. There appears to be a widespread issue of racist behavior at that school.
Is that a wealthy district? I looked through their school pics and school upgrades and they’re building out that school with stuff 99% of other public schools could only dream of.
Definitely read the replies to that thread. A lot of people reached out saying they’ve been bully and harassed by kids in that photo and some even shared racist snaps from some of the kids pictured. It sounds like the school administration is sympathetic to the kids as well telling students who have complained to grow a thicker skin
Suburby, town of 12k near WI Dells, has voted overwhelmingly blue in past, and during the 2018 midterms and voted for Hillary in 2016.
Well not as liberal as Madison and Dane Co, it is one of the more liberal areas of the state as a whole. It is also blindingly white, which probably feeds into the complete idiocy and ignorance of that photo.
That is messed up. I hope they get to the bottom of how that happened and why they thought it could possibly be OK. Flashing the white power sign means they are well aware of what they’re doing (they’ve been watching the news). This was no “accident”. For a blue area, it just makes no sense - especially for no one to stand up and say “NO, don’t do this”.
Poor child. I hope the parents become less shitty people very soon, OR they lose custody, either way.

I don’t know but I imagine some employers doing a deep dive on social media finding an applicant doing a sig heil here may find that interesting. If I were a parent of one of these I’d want to give him a few Stooges Moe-like slaps to the head.
So anyway, 1) Stupid male teens, a group notorious for being dumb and, 2) Privileged whites laughing about being racist, and 3) Some probably on the way to being drunk. That’s how I would explain it.
My hope is that for many this will be chalked up to the mistakes of youth and they might come round and be decent moderates or even liberals. When you’re in a big group like this at a social event like a prom, many who probably already have downed a few shots, it’s easy to be a lemming without thinking. I hope that is what that is for a lot of these kids.

Leaked National Socialist Legion (NSL) chat logs show members discussed activities such as harassing members of Pittsburgh’s Jewish community three months before the murder of 11 members of the Tree of Life Synagogue in Pittsburgh by neo-Nazi Robert Bowers. NSL members later celebrated Robert Bowers and also shared details about their own violent intentions.
The leaked chat logs we obtained begin during a leadership transition for the National Socialist Legion after the resignation of the group’s former leader, known as ‘Fox‘, a man from Sulphur Springs, Texas. ‘Fox’ was previously a member of Vanguard America and organized the group’s Texas branch and was active user on the Southern Front Discord server. ‘Fox’ made an appearance at a September 2017 protest opposing the removal of a Robert E. Lee statue in Dallas, Texas while holding the Vanguard America flag alongside William Fears, who was later charged with attempted murder for firing a gun at protestors following a talk by Richard Spencer in Florida.
