Yeah, Burzum and Varg are divisive topics in the metal community. On the other hand, National Socialist Black Metal is very much a thing (and a handful of acts have had their US tours effectively canceled when their associations with that scene were widely reported), and there is a small subset of the extreme metal community that is hardcore racist (and also violently misogynist, because those two things go together like fucking peanut butter and jelly).

That said, NSBM folks are usually hyper goddamn proud of that shit. Liking a Varg meme isn’t really evidence of Nazi leanings. Casually joking about white power while doing so? Let’s just say I’ll assume this guy uses the phrase “those people” non-ironically.

Full disclosure: Youthful, rebellious teenaged Armando kinda liked Varg because [non-human-endangering] church burning seemed awesome to someone starting to seriously hate Christianity. Then Armando read more than three words that Varg had ever spoken and realized dude was hardcore batshit crazy and the church-burning was probably more the symptom of a disease rather than a neato anarchic manifesto. . .

Full disclosure addendum: Armando does not advocate church-burning, and moreover, given its ludicrously racist associations here in the States, thinks it’s actually hot bullshit. Off-color pun not intended, but also not removed upon noticing its existence.

Racism is hard enough to understand because it goes against like even the most basic intellectual and emotional maturity most adults should have, but the fact that misogyny is right beside it… white women were and are right alongside their racist counterparts.
