Not quite.
I’m wishing there were standards these organisations were held to.
FB dodging the bullet by saying “we’re not a media company” just doesn’t cut it.
So, going back to what I originally said, what good is banning them going to do?
It seems like ammunition to hateful martyrs.

So in your world, if you make an invitation, you are beholden to let this person in your house forever, no matter what he/she does/says? I have no idea what you are arguing.
Why are you guys so eager to put words in my mouth?
I asked a simple question:
What’s the point of the ban?
or, if you prefer,
Why were they banned, and why now?

In the US we call these standards “laws.”
And as long as a private business isn’t targeting someone because they are in a protected class (and probably some other obscure reasons), they are allowed to refuse service to anyone they choose.
Takes away a platform for them to spread their shit, because deplatforming works:
Probably money, but I’m not going to be too upset if Facebook does the right thing for the wrong reason.
Yes I am aware of that. Seems the same in the UK.
But the question remains, and I posit, that this ban is merely ammunition for the right wingers.
Now the obvious counter is maybe they don’t need any more ammo, or that it is a proce worth paying.
But it seems very hypocritical that FB enjoyed their custom for so long, and even facilitated alot of the organising (via algorithms etc) and now they are persona non grata.
Seems to me something else is going on.

Go on, state your hypothesis. You’re obviously desperate to make some sort of guess about this, so don’t be afraid and just say what you want to say.
I can agree with that.
I’ll read your article later.
Fwiw I despise Facebook, and I’ve never had instagram or myspace or twitter.
I do use whatsapp (I don’t count this as a social network btw), and I’ve lately been sinking deep into the quora rabbit hole.
I lack the background information, but if I were to hazard a guess, it is probably some form of virtue signalling, or some serious money involved.

George Soros money, I bet! That devil!

Yeah, this is what I expected you were getting at, and it’s bullshit. But it sounds like you have a rant about SJWs ready to jump out so don’t let me stop you.
I’m afraid this is going over my head…
I’m not going to participate in your game of strawmanning and burning down.
You have fun though.
Who will think of the poor Nazi’s free speech?
That is actually a very serious question:
Being taken off a private social media platform does not IMO constitute an abridgement of free speech, though. Of course we are all now conditioned to think of Facebook and Twitter as practically public utilities, but the law hasn’t caught up to that, if it ever will or ought to.
That’s my joke. Being banned from Facebook isn’t a violation of the 1st Amendment.
Dude, that’s how the Holocaust started!
He may be thinking of vampires.

It’s the only argument that makes sense. Facebook “invited” these a-holes under their terms and conditions, and even those are allowed to change. This hand wringing about “why now?” and “why them?” is just pretext for what he really wanted to say: that he thinks Facebook is deplatforming conservative voices specifically.

BloodyBattleBrain:
But if we are going with this analogy, what if I invited them in the first place, or at least made them feel welcome once there, because it benefited me financially, because that is precisely what FB did…
And that’s… Totally fine.
I can invite you into my restaurant to sell you food, and then throw you out later if I want.
Unless you are a protected class… which Nazis are assuredly not.
Fuckin Nazis, we shouldn’t even be having this discussion because they shouldn’t exist anymore but yet people are so so dumb and here we are.
