Concentration camp does not mean Auschwitz, at least in the popular understanding of Auschwitz, which is Auschwitz II Birkenau. That was a death camp, like Treblinka. Modern concentration camps, at least civilian ones, were invented by the English in South Africa.

The softening of language is precisely what makes atrocities acceptable. Even the Nazis knew that. They called it the Final Solution, not Operation Murder All The Jews.

This wielding of Holocaust righteousness by the party of Charlottesville in order to cast a fig leaf over the abominable treatment of innocent children is fucking disgusting.

And again, look at what the news is focusing on. More ink is spilled over AOC’s word choice than the underlying cruelties; more ink over Biden’s comment about segregationist senators than about Trump’s casually saying that Democrats want to “destroy America.” As usual, we get our clocks cleaned re: command of the news cycle and narrative.

An appropriate result. I do wonder what life in prison is like for someone like that. There are Nazi and skinhead gangs who would of course welcome him with open arms, but it’s still prison.

Would they accept him, though? Maybe his celebrity on the outside would elicit their protection, but those guys are hardened felons who join those gangs mostly to survive in the racially polarized environment of prison, and this guy is a tubby shitboy who let his alt-right jerk-off fantasy carry him way too far. He’s not going to make their gang stronger — his experience running a car into a crowd won’t really help in a corridor knife fight. They might take him on as a punk.

His defense was basically that he didn’t want to be part of it and got scared, which… also doesn’t help one’s cred I suspect.
